Nickey and Yenko both did 427 Novas which were just ungodly...

For a factory car, I'd take a '69 Firebird Trans Am.

I see a couple people have picked Cudas -- I'd take the AAR version of that car becuase it had a better balance of performance.

I love them all. I'd have to say a 1969 yenko nova in rallye green. Just look at the stats. If you put on wide slicks it'd do 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds and the quarter mile in 11.0 if you were a piss poor driver. I'd like to see a 69 ferrari do that.

all the mopar cars were piles of crap and the hemi motors sucked, if you wanted a good car you got one with the 440 but if you wanted a real good car you just steered away from chyrsler all together.

If I had to pick one favorite, it would be:
1969 Dodge Coronet R/T with 440-4 bbl Magnum
I pick this over the similar Charger because the Coronet has more rear seat and luggage space (I like cars with a lot of luggage space).

There were many good cars from each make of American muscle cars and, yes, including Mopars.
The '68-'69 Mopar 340s could out-accelerate many "true" muscle cars.
For instance, Motor Trend got a 6.3 sec 0-60 mph time and a 14.22 sec @ 99 mph 1/4 mile with a stock '68 'Cuda with 3.55 gears. Compare that with the high-14/low-15 sec times of a typical 396 Chevelle, 390 Fairlane or 389 GTO.

A '69 Charger 440 was good for low-14s (M/T got 13.9 @ 101.4 with one).
The Mopars engines were tough and powerful.

Regarding the Hemi... they could run very quick 1/4 miles *when properly tuned*. They were a headache to keep tuned, but when they were in tune, almost nothing could keep up with them. I'm talking about low-to-mid 13 seconds times for the faster of the Hemis and 0-100 mph times in the 12-second bracket.
One of my favorite road tests is of a '68 Hemi-Charger (Car & Driver, Nov., 1967)...
0-30 mph--------- 1.7 secs
0-60 mph--------- 4.8
0-100 mph-------- 12.5
1/4 mile----------- 13.5 secs @ 105 mph
30-70 mph-------- 4.3
Speed in gears @
rpm (mph) 1st---- 63 mph @ 6500 rpm
----------- 2nd--- 107 mph @ 6500 rpm
----------- 3rd--- 156 mph @ 6500 rpm

Then there is a '69 Dart GTS 340, which with 3.91 gears and a 4-speed manual transmission (and weighing 3,480 lbs) ran these times:
0-30 mph---------- 2.0 secs
0-60 mph---------- 6.0
0-100 mph--------- 14.5
1/4 mile------------ 14.4 secs @ 99.0 mph

Since it's on the list, 1969 Corvette 427 - a special 500 horsepower, that has finally just now been rematched, oh yeah.

Other then that, probably the 1971 Camaro RS SS - 13 second car.

I will stop here, to avoid a top 10 list or top 20 list.

As much of a Moparhead that I am I'd still pick the '69 COPO ZL1 Camaro over anything ..... '68 Hemi Dart might be quite enticing tho.

Seems like we've been here before .... kinda http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2661 check out post #10 :)

MAN I pick mopars and fords over any gm car any day chevy just had to hell and sream when the dodge charger daytonas and superbirds where winning every race and going 200mph the ford or chevy nscars couldn't do so don't start dissing mopar when they ruled the race with the winged 200mph race cars.

I was just joking at first, I didn't think it would come to that. :p

[EDIT] I warned Mopar through a PM, and he replied, with an apology. I'll let this issue blow over because I was purposely 'busting your chops', but make sure this doesn't happen in the future. I'll clean up this thread now.

You should learn to control your emotions, especially considering this:
man you should see me when some one just starts messin with me in public I lose it
People have opinions, and you have to respect that, as long as they're not discriminatory, prejudiced, negative, etc. Cheers. :)

Talk to a member named Werty. He's got a 67? Chevy Camaro with +/- 400 hp, and a full exhaust + headers. He can talk to you about how muscle cars sound, since he knows from experience. ;)

I prefer the old Mopars having had quite a few of them, most of them not big on the performance end (a lot of 318cid engined cars :)
'74 Charger (318)
'71 Charger (318)
'73 Duster (slant 6 until replaced with a decently built 360 - ran a best of 13.1 in the 1/4)
'75 Roadrunner (318 - a glorified Fury with a stripe kit and beep beep horn)
'73 Charger (318 - kinda built, later replaced with a stock 440 running nitrous - ran a best of 12.7)
'69 Super Bee (440 - sold it for $3500 more than I paid for it later that same day)
'70 Roadrunner (originally a 383 car replaced with a well built 440, later added nitrous, best 1/4 10.85 @ 131 straight motor and 10.22 @ 144 on the bottle)

It's not that I didn't like the Fords or GMs, there was just so many Mustangs (late model and Mach 1's, Torinos, Chevelles, Novas, Cutlasses, Camaros and Trans Ams etc), that owning a Chrysler "underdog" put you in "elite" company .... not to mention the outrageous colors: the Mopar mafia consisted of a Plum Crazy '74 Charger and '71 Challenger, Top Banana '70 Challenger, Lime Green '68 Charger, Panther Pink '71 Challenger, Basin Street Blue '71 Duster, Burnt Orange '70 Demon, Hemi Orange '71 Roadrunner and my '70 Lime Green Roadrunner.

There is no bad musclecar - except the old AMC AMXs, Javelins, Ramblers etc :p j/k, it all boils down to personal preferences.

I, too, am a big Mopar fan (just look at my list in my sig).

I am a fan of all the '60s/early '70s U.S. muscle cars. But I leaned to Mopars because one of my brothers had one ('66 Plymouth Fury III 318 V-8) and I eventually owned one, too ('66 Dodge Dart GT 273 V-8).

As you said, you see Camaros and Mustangs everywhere, plus those cars are too small for me (I like a BIG trunk). Generally, the Mopar muscle cars had well-built engines and the Torqueflite automatic transmission was the best in the business. My favorite Mopar engine is the 440... big and powerful, tons of torque and reliable. I also like the 340 and 383 (the Hemi, too, but those require much upkeep).

The 318s, though considered a "small" engine back in the '60s, does repsond to modifications. Just doing a few upgrades (cam, headers, bigger carb, intake manifold, lower axle ratio, shift kit) would put your '74 Charger from the 17s to the 15s in the 1/4 mile. Not bad for a 3,800+ lb car with a "small" V-8!
