VW is planning to introduce a new engine technology (supplied by Eaton).
They are introducing Turbo along with Supercharger that work sequentially. This technology was used by the Lancia S4 rally car in the '80's but never made it into production.

See details in this link.

According to the reports (Many sources claim so) they will introduce this forced induction system in various displacement engines (1,4 - 1,6 - 2,0)
Looks like the GTi will get a power hike to 240 bhp.

I have to clarify though, that all these are rumours. No official press release has surfaced yet from the VW Press Department. Maybe the next few days at the Auto Show in Frankfurt?

He failed to mention the Nissan March (Micra) SuperTurbo from the late eighties, but yea. That'll be cool.
