Here's one I'm working on in free periods with no work to do. This way you can tell the process of how I work...
I start with the landscape, adding in streets. This allows myself a guid on how and where to draw in filler buildings.
I then scribble in landmarks/insignificant bulidings that I know, to give myself bearings on what to put around it.
I draw out basic forms for buildings in the 'filler' blocks
I shade them
I detail them
I add sea and sky
This is all from memory thus far, but I'm trying to keep it as accurate as possible. :) My only problem with it is Telegraph Hill, which is way too big.
In it, you can see Pier 49, Financial District, Nob Hill, Russian Hill, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz boat dock/bus hub, Union Square (at least the tall buildings near it) along with a few other things.
