Expect V8 magic when BMW unveils its E90-series M3, though that won’t happen until 2007. We hear BMW plans 400-plus hp transmitted through a seven-speed sequential manual gearbox. BMW will offer a six-speed manual and possibly an automatic as an option. We also hear rumblings of the return of the four-door M3—absent from the E46 range—to complement the coupe and convertible lineup.

Why do they want to spoil the M3 with the 4-door look again? I agree that I don't like it like that but it's kinda part of its heritage.

In the 4th pic it has a look of the 6 series. Still awful though.

the M3 wont have a 4 door the only 4door M is going to be the M5 and no M5touring so stop thinking about those cars....

If they made the M3 a four door they would be shooting theselves in the foot.

I'd like a 4 door M3.

I agree, stick with the two door models. A four door would definitly kill the image of the M3 IMO.

E36 M3 was available in 4 doors, to me that was still a great sleeper car...

IMO why not, M3's main competitor from Mercedes and Audi are all 4 doors, while M3 is the only one available as a 2 door. By making a 4 door it takes away some of their competitor's business, while at the same time keeping the coupe's customer group....besides 3 series itself is available in both trim, why not extend the M range fully to all the 3er moder...

As long as BMW offers a 2 door right along side with he (possible) 4 door, I don't see a problem. I hope the manual tranny rumor is true. :)

If those pics are any indication of the new shape... sorry to say its FUGLY
Im a big fan of beemers especially the M3.. but their design team must be a bunch of asian ricers bcoz their cars are lookin more and more ugly and japanese with every new series... they need to go back to the elegant styles they were producing in 95 through to 99/00
really turning away from the BMW's now..
Anyone on UCP agree with me on this ?

I agree, they may still be brilliant cars, but in terms of styling they have lost the plot.

I also don't see that there is much of an image with an M3. A 4-Door would make it better IMO. People I see driving M3s are men in their late 20s/early 30s who have done ok with themselves, haven't been able to afford a 911 yet. Plus, they generally tailgate you and try to intimidate you in every way shape or form. Don't mean to generalise, but 3 Series drivers - and M3 drivers in particular - seem to be rude men thinking they own the road where I live.

From my sources, I've heard there will be a 2 and 4 door option with an option of manual or SMG again, and I'd say why not try and take some sales away from audi with a 4 door, after the RS4 is looking pretty impressive. The coupe will still be the seller, but all car companies are looking at as many options as possible these days. Put it this way, if I had a family, I'd buy a 4 door M3, no question. Oh and I'm sure it'll look just fine by the time they're done with it!

Or they could just..you know... not like 911's.

I just found a couple pictures of the "M3 Range", and they're looking pretty nice. If only they didn't have that bootline...
[Disclaimer: These are NOT press pictures, they are artists' ideas of what they might look like!]
