I thought the same, no offence or anything. It looked like a mediocre photo of a great car.

Haha, doing a bit of both. Me and my mate just kept swapping the drving seat at every service station, then i realised that i left something at the hotel where i stayed for a wedding the previous day so i had to go back, thats why they are on different sides of the road :o (if nobody understands, classic car thread "what is that classic?" :P

I think this competition is set apart from the general photography competition, in the way that this one doesnt concentrate on the skill of the photographer, or how the shot stands out and catches your eye, which it should be for. Instead its more a case of what the car is, and what its doing. Take henks photo for example its just looking down at an engine on a car. No different from anything else. Its a shame because skilled photographers wont always get reckognition when they enter a good photo like in the general photo comp.

The Astons on the background do help. I wouldn't call it a winner right away though....

can i ask what u think makes it special?

Rockefella

I don't know if it's necessarily a winner, but it's definately a nice picture. The way the sun is glaring off the side of the opened door, and is reflected on the window.. the position that the Aston Martin is in at the background, which is nearly identical to the angle of the Macca, the lines all flow in the same direction, the white Macca has a nice contrast to the dark background, great subjects in the picture, etc. Need more?

If in that photo with the Mclaren, the Mclaren was replaced with a Civic, with after-market Lamborghini Doors fitted and one of them opened on the same side as the Mclaren, would you still vote for it? :)

In a way you are right. I looked at your picture a long time, especially after Rob considered it a perfect picture, with straight lines and the rest of it. Nevertheless I don't think it should have been entered here. Normally you see these long exposure pics of part of streets/cities at night, where the subject is the street or the city and the fact that passing traffic produced these light lines is a bonus. Nobody cares what sort of traffic/cars create these lines, it is the overall effect.
I think for this contest we need something recognisable automotive, and put in a specific environment or depicted in a very special way. (the recent picture of the Fiat 500 left behind in a garden was a classic). I am in noway playing down your efforts to produce a nice/good picture but as you mention yourself, it might not have been entered in the right contest.

(This is also not a justification for the fact that my pic has won, because as some say that was just a snapshot of the engine of an old CanAm car)

i agree completely, i thought seeing as i co-run the general photo comp and enter it every week, my photography skills and hobbies are circled around non-automotive subjects. So i decided to enter a photo in this comp for a change as it had something to do with cars, but i do agree it isnt the normal type of photo entered in this competition, this is more about how the car appears in the photo. If i entered it in the general comp, it would be more likely to win as voters consider the overall turnout of the photo. Not just the car as they do in this competition.

there actually is some technique in my pic. Most people would just snap a pic from normal height but I tried to get a different perspective and achieve a depth of view in the pic.

If you go to "Post Reply" and scroll down, you will come across "Additional Options", and there's an option there which is labelled "Manage Attachments". Click on there, and the rest will explain itself.

Also, the competition rules state that the maximum size of a picture entered is 800x600, so I took the liberty of changing it for you. :)
