Both of the upcomming M's definately the object of desire for many of us. Unfortunately, most of us can't affort to add both the sedan and coupe into our collection. I'm one of those unlucky individuals. I've place orders on both cars; however, unless I get lucky with the lotto, I'll have to cancel one of them. So here I am, seeking help from bimmer enthusists - please, help me choose!

M5, looks better and 4-doors makes it nicer to live with.

Oh also, prepare to be flamed by people who choose not to believe anything they hear on here.

I'll rather take the M6. Looks and will be more sporty.

A couple of weeks ago i heard the new V10 engine... God that sounded nice almost as good as a 360CS i heard last year.

I've seen them both quite recently and started pondering on the same question myself, and I have to say I'd go with the M5. They're both good looking, have the same engine and the M6 weights less, BUT there is just something about the M5 that drops my jaw. If you're not looking for just performance it could also be more practical, and cheaper. :)

I would personally go with the M6. I think it looks faster and will be faster. Although I love the M5 too. More pactical and more of a sleeper i suppose.

I'd go with the M6. It's got that exotic and sporty look to it while the M5 looks more like a family car to toat kids around in.

The M5 is more practical, better looking and just as fast as the M6. Go the M5! :)

:p I wouldn't. They'd probably tear up the backseat and rip holes in the leather.

I saw the M6. It is a serious GT and very good value for money. Classy also. It is an all around car (price, looks, performance). The only thing that lets me down is fuel consumption, but that's the price to pay for 500 horses....

yeah, I think the M5 has a touch of class above the M6.....don't get me wrong, I love the M6, but the 5 is all kinds of cool.

M3? U mean the new V-8 version? I can't wait that long. And it's just a shorten version of the V-10s. I'd rather go all the way and not ditch those cylinders.

Tough choice but I would choose the M6, I don't need 4 doors. :)

Depends how much you'd value the extra practicality of the M5. If you've got rugrats then definitely the M5, but otherwise I'd prefer the M6. Same power, less weight, better handling, drop-dead gorgeous IMHO, and fairly practical as long as you don't need to cart around children too often. :)

M5!!! Nothing like a 5 person family hauling 500hp machine!

You have a family? Then M5's your object of desire.

You still looking for a wife in order to start a family? Get yourself the M6 then...

I read an article that was written right after the release of the M6 and it said that it was 2+2. The second two would allow two *average* adults to sit comfortably in the rear. The only problem is that here in the U.S., average is 5'9" and most of my friends are 6'+. I guess the 6 could be used for a kid hauler too...but I don;t know. As a person who grew up getting out of the rear of a Thunderbird, I would prefer a door of my own if I were the child.

couldnt choose. I like the fact that the M5 has 4 doors which make it more pratical but i prefer the look of the M6.

so....... ah give me a black or that red M6 =)

The M6 has close to the same room in the rear, weighs less (obviously), but it is about $10k's more. Depends on what you use it for

I would take the M6 if I don't have any kids, as many people have already said.

I prefer the looks of the M6--by far--to the M5. Even though the rear end is predictably ugly, the 6 just looks like a more determined GT. The M5, which I admire much, is just too ordinary looking for me at the price.

Don't, however, believe that the back seat of an M6 is serviceable for human beings. I've been in the same shopping mode as you are now, and I find I can't squeeze my ten year old comfortably in the back of a 6 series. At least, he mightily protests sitting back there.

Left cold by the M5, and finding the M6 impractical, I'm looking hard at the Maserati GranSport. You give up the 500 hp. (while getting 400) for genuine room for four, and--to my taste--mature design. (Of course, there's always the prospect that it might spend more time in the shop than in daily use. But you can't be sure that won't precisely be the case with the Bimmer. New Ms with new engines might well mimic the pattern of the E46 M3, which through at least 2003 spent much of it's life in the hands of BMW mechanics.)

I like the looks of both, I don't think the performance is a big difference. But a 500 BHP saloon just appeals to me, plus I think the interior of the 6 looks crappy. And I don't want my friends needing to break their legs to get in the back.

So M5 for me. Any day. :)
