I was in Montreal for Labor Day weekend and while I was admiring the array of boats in the harbour, out pops an Amphicar. It looked in wonderful condition, and it surprised me by how nimble it was in the water. Its a pretty cool piece of machinery. I also sighted a Mercedes-Benz 250SL from the 60's, as well as dozens of American Steel classics...none of which I conveniently did not have my camera available. Speaking of American Steel...I was getting gas in a little town in upstate NY, and someone had one for sale. I don't know what it was, but it was a 2-Door, and the hood opened sideways, with the hinges on the driver's side. I do not remember seeing any portholes (so I guess that rules out Buicks), but it was from the late 40's possibly early 50's. It looked original too. Anyone know what that can be?

This is so great! Possibly the most fantastic spotting ever posted on UCP. It's such a cute car and it's so funny and nice to see it being use as intended and not tucked away in a showroom. Look at the grin on the driver's face! It's imposible not to have a stupid grin when you're making something as odd and amusing as driving your classic through an harbour. :D

"Salvage Squad" was a TV series in the UK 3-4 years ago where they restored odd and classic vehicles.

The Amphicar one is worth watching if these intrigue you.

Superb! Another car added to the "want" list! I can just see myself pottering up and down the Thames. I've seen one before but not in real action like this. :D

(Actually they do "Frog Tours" where they use ex-military amphibious troop carriers to do just that with tourists - bus ride half on land and half on water. Not seem them for a while but you used to see them hurtling through the West End - massive things painted bright yellow! Hope they haven't gone bust ... :()

Edit: they seem to be still going. Here's a photo:

Edit: just noticed someone already posted the Salvage Squad link. Excellent show! :D

Looks like I'd have to take a trip to get one ...
