Hi all, I just joined this forum...and this is my first car model so go easy :) Have made airplane models for a few years, but not for a while.

Anyway I love the GT3 car, so I bought the Tamiya kit. Its not the ideal one, I prefer the later body style (with parts from the Turbo I believe).

I'm nearing the end of he project, but here's some pics.

I like the weathering underneath and the atlas is nice touch.

Good job for a first car !!!

What did you paint the shell with ?
Looks a little 'heavy'. Spray multiple light coats if coverage is needed.
You can also polish it with wet-and-dry to remove the orange-peel.

I painted it with Tamiya spraypaint, unfortunately I dont have an airbrush :(

I might sand it lightly with some wet and dry to try and smooth it out a bit.

as well as some great inputs from guys here at UCP who are WAY-WAY more experienced, here are some links I've used in the past for tips ....

Jimlad - very impressive. The atlas on the passenger's seat is a really nice touch.

You might want to try a polishing kit and some Novus polish on the car's finish. I think you'll be very pleased with the results.

Welcome to UCP and keep building and posting pics - we love 'em.

Andy.

Excellent job! It's obvious you've had past experience. ;)
I wouldn't rush out to buy an airbrush, if I were you, Tamiya sprays are typically good enough, given lots of patience. ;)

Looks very good

what glue did you use for the windows?
white glue will provide a sufficient, though not a stron bond, and excess glue can easily be removed with a tooth pick.

Did you fill up the panel lines with ink or a wash?

I used superglue, but not very much. Not a good thing to use, but I had to pinch in the two struts as they had been bent outwards in the kit (think the box must have had something lying on it in the shop  ). The panel lines were done in enamel paint, I didnt have any ink.

Not much progress, in fact none you'd really notice :p

Having trouble painting the spoiler parts, the paint keeps blistering. I'll get there eventually!

I made the atlas, just printed an image of one off and stuck it to some plasticard ;)

Finally glued the shell to the chassis, so on the home stretch now. Got a few more decals on too. The spoiler should be on tomorrow

The spoiler is on at last :D. Also got one of the skirts on. Only the wing mirrors, plates, and a couple of other bits to go now

Does mixing paint with thinner make the painting surface more even?

paint should be running smoothly, if not thin it, in partivular when applied with a brush, and in particular when applying acrylics which tend to dry much faster than enamels. Don't overdo it though, otherwise the paint will not cover properly but run away to the edges.

I c. Does this mean put an equal amount of paint as the amount of thinner?

that really depends on the fluidity of the paint itself. If it is already thick you add a little more thinner. There is no fixed rule for that.
