Amazing New Norris Design Demo Car
The MLR were recently invited to Norris Designs for an exclusive preview of their new demo car. There will be a full write up including an in-depth interview with Simon Norris in the next edition of Wastegate Chatter out on 1st October, but here's a brief rundown of the car and some pictures as the final build nears completion.

Exactly what the new Norris Designs demo car is has been the subject of much speculation and Simon's kept it a closely guarded secret whilst creating what is the most unique Evo ever seen.

Believing that the only way Evo performance can take a big step forward is with drastic weight loss, Norris Designs have built an Evo that should weigh in at just 1080kg. With a power to weight ratio of nearly 800bhp per ton it's almost 300bhp per ton more powerful than the old Norris Design Evo 7 demo car!!

To build an Evo this light has meant the car has undergone some major weight loss and incredible engineering, including a substantial amount of the bodyshell being removed to make the car shorter and lower. In fact it is 10inches shorter and 3inches lower than a standard Evo 9 shell. With the shell customised this much, the rear doors have been removed creating the world's first Short Wheelbase 2-Door Evo....

Stick two doors back on and change the colour and make sure the front spoiler and bonnet match the rest of the car :)

2 door evo eh? well i can say already that it DOESNT WORK. Its like trying to make a ferrari 360 into a 4 door, its not gona happen. Theres no reason to change it n that body colour is awful.

I agree with Niko, Asif and Rik - but that 841 bhp is so tasty...mmmmnn!!
I think they didn't paint the front bumper, maybe because of weight? In that case they should have left the whole body unpainted.

I'll have that in a flat black.

They should have just gone the Mirage-Evo way like the Aussie TUFmirage http://www.tufcars.com.au/ it's no problem at all to get a mirage under a ton even with an Evo driveline.

And the RC developments Evo is still more powerful, 930Bhp and 673lb/ft.

Full marks for originality and determination though Norris.

wow thats amazing. i like how they concentrated on weight loss instead of just milking out the hp. the color combo is ugly as sin tho. what is that, day glow green?

118 octane... god, damn. No thanks. I take my flat black comment back from above. Maybe I'd keep it for some track days though.

118 octane gasoline doesn't make any sense; 100 octane is isooctane - the highest rating possible. thats like getting 118% on a test with no extra credit.

In the US, over $8 USD per gallon.

I like the evo. Except for the obvious. Like the paint choice and the carbon fiber. But me, i don't like the bronze rims. They are racing wheels yes, but why bronze. Nice car though. I'd take it.

There's no need to mess with an Evo's dynamics. By shortening the wheelbase I'd say it's lost a lot of its handling characteristics - they may as well convert it to front wheel drive now.

Looks ugly too.

Have you all gone mad?! That's the perfect colour! If you're going to have a car as lairy as that, you might as well have it in a lairy colour. I like the two door thing too, it looks very complete and cohesive for what is, to all intents and purposes, a cut & shut.

Bravo, gentlemen - more of the same please!

MrKipling

Dr Gonzo, with all the 'pooters that thing has on board you could probably cut one wheel off and it would still go quickly.

Ifg permitted under WRC rulse it woudl have been interesting.
Shorter wheelbase makes a nimbler tighter turning car :)
and as GroupB showed a nightmare to keep in a straight line !!!!!

Not always, especially with 4WD cars.

Carbon fibre love :P it's going to be ugly anyway you look at it.

MrKipling

Yeah, shortening the wheelbase does make a nimbler car. You're hugely decreasing the polar moment, which will make the car easier to spin and, therefore, turn. As Matra said, just look at Group B cars like the Stratos.
