:eek::eek::eek:

Pagani Zonda F, Mercedes CLK-GTR and McLaren F1 all lined up together!!! Anyone know where this is? I'm guessing by the fact the Zonda is rhd that it's in either the UK or Japan.

I agree with Rocke that the wheels are perhaps a little too garish and 'blinging', but I suppose if you're the shy and retiring type then a Pagani Zonda probably isn't the car for you! :p It's all about the ultimate in supercar excess.

I have to say I love this car more and more each time I see it. Even the irksome wooden steering wheel is starting to grow on me. :)

The whole car has ALWAYS been carbon fibre. Just for this particular car they decided not to paint the carbon fibre body panels. :)

Good idea. Along with carbon fibre propriety register papers, carpets, tyres, key, sunglasses and driving shoes...
Very fashionable. Very silly.

I'd say there's more chance of it being in UAE or Middle East somewhere. If it was in the UK, I'm sure one of us would have tracked it down by now ;)

Yes, but Pagani uses it as art! They are the carbon fibre masters. This car looks absolutely amazing, but I still like the 2 tone Zonda F more.

You've not seen an F1 car recently then?

I don't think it works over the whole car.

Maybe have the car painted above or below the belt line.

Maybe have the car painted above or below the belt line. I really hated the Zonda F they let the magazines drive ... the 2 tone reminds me of ricers who fail to paint the bottom half of their car. Full exposed Carbon Fibre for me please :)

I thought this might be the place to ask, has anyone(meaning car companies) ever thought of making rims out of carbon fibre?

If it were advantageous to do.... it would already be in use widely. The only place I've seen carbon rims used is on bicycles.

btw isn't this a Zonda F or do all new zondas have that exact front light?

Yes it's an F, hence the bloody great "F" on the back! ;)

http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=130685

Don't think carbon fibre would be particularly suitable for a car's wheels. Yes, it is VERY strong, but also brittle once pushed too hard. You can imagine in a car with the monumental torque of a Zonda the huge forces being applied to the spokes and wheel rim under hard acceleration. Wouldn't really want my rear wheels to shatter as I pressed the loud pedal!

Oh come on, you know what he meant! :p

CLR, CLK-GTR, it's a pretty close match! They look very similar, it'd be very easy to mistake one for t'other to the untrained eye. And I'm sure all Le Mans cars look pretty similar after flying into trees at 180mph!

;)

(For the record, I prefer the Zonda as it isn't bound by the constraints of homologation. Designing a race car then sticking CLK head/tail lights to it to fit the rules just doesn't sit right with me. :) )

Coventrysucks
09-21-2005, 06:11 PM
The Mercedes CLR and CLK GTR are completely different cars.

Different chassis, engine, gearbox, bodywork...

And FWIW other cars that "flipped up and flew into a forest" include the Porsche 911 GT1 Evo.

So there.

Well it was on the Mulsanne straight that Peter Dumbreck (and also Mark Webber) went into orbit. Top speed there is in excess of 200mph, so I imagine he must've been going in the high 100s. I'm guessing you may have seen a slo-mo of it, because to get to that kind of height in the air would take a hell of a lot of speed (plus a big dollop bad luck/engineering  ), that's why I guessed at 180. :)

for three coventry how did the boat job go?

Better than I ever expected.

It has definately focussed my, untill now slightly vague, aims in life.

And it is a strange argument.

I've been rather restless over the last few days, and am probably being a bit too terse.

The CLK GTR and CLR are like Dick Cheney and Geroge W Bush, similar concept but different mechanicals.

my porsche
09-22-2005, 05:28 PM
ahh, so basically clr is the race version?

Coventrysucks
09-22-2005, 05:39 PM
No, it was a completely different car.

The CLK GTR was first raced in 1997 with a 6.0-litre V12, and there were a limited number of road cars built for homologation purposes.

Then for 1998 the FIA, being high on crack or something, decided that homologation was stupid and let everyone loose.

So Mercedes produced an updated CLK GTR, called the CLK LM, which used a V8, and revised bodywork with a much smaller frontal area. The car went on to win 10/10 FIA GT races that year. It lost out to the Porsche 911 GT1 at Le Mans though.

Then for 1999, the CLK LM was more or less totally redesigned to form the CLR. Still V8, and with an even more "aerodynamic" shape.

The problems with take-offs over high-speed crests happened a few times, but because it happened three times to Mercedes at Le Mans very publically, everyone forgets the fact that it was a problem encountered by other teams.
