one of the best ford concepts that should have become a production car.

Looks like a Lambo designed by a committee.

The Contour, shown at the 1991 Detroit Show, was revolutionary in so many respects. Its engine was the first straight-eight since Pontiacs in 1954 and was mounted traversely to save space. The shape of the car was dramatic with steeply ranked screens and a long cabin domin ating. It was mounted on an aluminium chassis entirely bounded togehter. The headlamps were 1 inch high arc discharge rods and there were two floating rear spoilers.
To describe its fresh way of thinking in design terms, Ford coined the term 'edge design.' Before production cars like the Ka and Puma took to the streets, Ford displayed numerous concept cars at motor shos around the world, which dramatically demonstrated its new philosophy.

Edge design burst on to the scene with the revolutionary GT90 in 1995. The name hinted at the inspiration for the car, Fords highly successful GT40 road/race car of the 1960s. In format, there were similarities: this was a very low, mid-engined two-seater with fantastic performance potential, but in truth the cars were very divergent.

The GT90 resembled a Stealth bomber in the way that its triangular flat surface intersected one another. Under the skin its technology was bang up-to-date racing-car; a honeycomb aluminium chassis, carbonfibre body and space-shuttle-type ceramic exhaust. Powered by a quad-turbo 720bhp V-twelve engine, it was intended to be launched in a limited series of 100 cars, but the plan never materialized. Much more significant was the GT90s effect of the future of Ford design.

It was a 6.0 V12, the same engine that became the testbed for the Aston Martin Vanquish and DB9

I'm not sure, but I don't think that they ever had a fully working one. I think those numbers are estimates, but if anyone can prove me wrong, go for it. I'd love for that to be real.

I couldn't tell you which magazine.. but I remember reading a write-up on it once, and they actually let the magazine folks drive it...

Jeremy Clarckson also drove it wich he said when he tested the Ford GT in Detroit. Also some footage of him driving it.

Yea, Jezza said it had a top speed of 40, and was terrible.

As I recall it was decided the manufacturing process for this car was going to be too expensive....the reason given for nonproduction.

At the time I remember reading the aero was horrendous and was completely unstable and could not be driven at speed. Can't remember who wrote the article so I may be citing JC too :D

hmm, conflicting information on the engine configuration... but post #20, pic #3 seems to have sorted that out... V12, quad turbo... apparently, the ME Four-Twelve engine isn't all that revolutoinary... ;)

Given that the Bugatti EB110 had a quad turbo V12 and actually got put into production... yea.
