The March 2004 edition of Car and Driver has an article about the Mercedes-Benz SL600. It notes a 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds and discusses it in some detail. But, all the other data I have seen on the car indicates a 0-60 performance of about between about 4.5 and 4.7 seconds. The official Mercedes-Benz web site (www.mbusa.com) indicates a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds for the SL600. What accounts for this huge difference? Are there any other road tests that you are aware of that were able to replicate the performance that Car and Driver obtained?

If the 2004 SL600 can really get to 60 in 3.6 seconds, it is is substantially faster than the SL55 AMG, and even slightly faster than the Mercedes SLR and the Porsche GT3 etc.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

It's amazing, always magazines and web pages have different information about cars. On the internet says that the evolution does more than 5 secs and on magazines about 4.7 I dont get it.

Another thing (but it doesnt have to do with magazines and the web) is that the Mustang gt is supposed to do 5.9 secs and the s2000 5.3 secs, but I have driven both and you can feel a lot more acceleration on a mustang gt..... I have a civic so there's no reason I should talk better about the mustang.....

There's no way. Not at all... :)

The statistics that say 0-60 in 4.5 seconds sound far more accurate. With the heavy modern SL platform, under 4 is not going to happen without a lot more power than they've predicted.
