View Full Version : might be getting a new car

Prius

yeah, me and my Parents are considering buying a Ford Taurus, because A) a Ford Dealer is offering a screaming good deal, and b) we thought it would be cheaper to buy a new car than to keep putting money into the lemon van to keep it operatible, we don't know if we will buy one, but we are looking at buying it.

why do you like ford so much?

Prius
10-05-2005, 04:31 PM
Because they offer some innovate designs, and I am impressed about how reliable my dads Escort is.

IBrake4Rainbows
10-05-2005, 04:35 PM
innovative? I'm not going to get into that.

For an Undemanding driver, the Taurus should fit into your life well. Just don't expect to remember it ten years later.....

Prius
10-05-2005, 04:39 PM
I care to disagree, Consumer reports claims that the Taurus has carried a long even reliability record, plus the fact that the old Taurus' are still on teh road.

But I do agree that the Taurus is not the most exciting car in the world, but it's comfortable, quiet, and there is enough rear leg room for me so i'll be comfortable on long road trips (we know for sure, becasue we used reated Taurus' all the time for long road trips), and if the Taurus has ample legroom for me, then it must be pretty roomy, becasue i'm very tall.

My dad's taurus has 180,000miles replaced the transmission and waterpump and it's still going. Good luck on the deal.

IBrake4Rainbows
10-05-2005, 04:49 PM
You've raised reliability (Something which I did not care to mention) as an example of innovation. wow, thats like a Fleet Change-of-subject.

Wheres the technical prowess, the 500 might be boring but at least it has CVT.

Good luck on the deal, no doubt Ford needs more undiscerning consumers to peddle it's products to.

what's your price range?

Prius
10-05-2005, 05:11 PM
The only reason we are considering a Taurus is becasue a Ford Dealer is giving us an extremely good deal. And I didn't use reliability as a example of ijnnpvation, but I like some of teh features, like teh keypad on teh door to get you in if you locked your keys inside, or the bench seat that has a console that folds out of it.

Plus, if I haven't stated this earlier, my dad used to own a Taurus (1989) and it ran faithfully. The only reason we sold it is becasue since we bought teh lemonvan, all it was doing was sitting and rotting in the front of the driveway.

Prius

I never really thought teh Five Hundred was boring, but my dad hates it (only becasue he gets spoiled with his rentals, because he gets Infinitis and the such), but I wasn't really impressed by the fit and finish, because it felt a bit plasticy, but I heard that Ford fixed all that.

IBrake4Rainbows
10-05-2005, 05:24 PM
I'm guessing your getting a good deal on the taurus because it's being phased out, theres some more milking to be done in that case. See what you can get.

most Cars these days have a console that comes out of the rear bench seat..... but their handy to have.

or you can order the premium package and get a conventional console like this.

A-Infiniti doesn't build G20's anymore. Cheese-Tacular had assumed you had some sort of automotive knowledge which you always brag about. He was making the implication that you would buy it used.

B-Your Caravan, if I recall correctly, was a 1996 model? That means it's 10 years old. I wouldn't call failing parts failing 'prematurely.'

teh Caravan is a 98 model, and teh spark pulgs died at 78,000 miles. Chrysler claimed that it wouldn't need a tuneup until 100,000 miles, but we already had 2 done, but mostly, it is plain, unreliable.

and we are not shopping around and being picky. I know teh G20 is gone. But we are not shoppign around and being picky, if we are to get a car now, it will be a Taurus. If we want to shop around, then we will try to see if we can squeeze a couple more years out of teh Caravan. We saw that a ford dealer is giving such a good deal on the Taurus, and we figured it would be cheaper than to keep putting money into teh Caravan, sonsidering it seems that it is sucking money out of our pockets liek a vacuum because of all teh parts we are replacing because of drivetrain failure, and we thought that this would be a good deal as we got rental Tauruses and we liked them because they were comfortable and roomy, and they have a proven reliability record, plus we had a good expirance in teh past with teh Taurus we used to own.

so if we are buyign now, it will be a Taurus, if we decide to wait, they we'll come up with a price range and you will be free to throw out suggestions.

I can *agree* (for the sake of staying sane) about it being unreliable. But 78,ooo miles out of your plugs is fairly reasonable. And even so, it's a small expense to replace them. How many miles are on it now? my neighbors have a 96 Voyager that needed none and is in the 150,ooo area.

That's right. It would be silly to get a better car for the money. What are you paying for it?
*EDIT* $14,000...Not bad, considering it's 'new...' But the Ford dealers need to purge themselves of Taurus' for the Fusion. It's an outdated model, and there's plenty better used cars availible.

Prius, with all your knowledge of cars you should know that a Ford Taurus is not a good choice. You can get so many different amazingly good cars for $20,000. Has your family ever owned a Japanese or European car? Have you not seen the light? I mean honestly who would rather see a Ford Taurus sitting in there driveway rather than say a used BMW 3 series or a used Honda Accord or something like that.

umm, i can actually relate to what this poor kid is saying.

remember years back my parents were thinking of buying a car, they asked me what i think and this and that. but they end up getting a car that i didn't really like. but i always knew that i'm not paying for it, so my opinion wouldn't matter that much, (now that i'm paying for it, it still doesnt matter that much :D).

but i don't remember asking all my friends and posting on an international forum for people (who i may not even know) to give me opinions on cars my parents may get, when i know that my opinion doesn't matter that much.
