Alright, as the voting (http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18379) suggest, here it is!

Seeing as it's week 1, there will probably be a few small niggles here and there.
For week 1, the theme will be hatchbacks, up to $AU40k, $AM30k, $EU25k, $UK17.5k.
Looking forward to all the entries!

• The proposed picture must be your own and not found on the net.
• Only the photographs taken 6 months previous to the date of entry are accepted.
• Only one photograph per person and weekly contest allowed; you may not change your photograph once it has been entered.
• There are 5 days to submit your photograph, a poll will be created after 5 days for people to vote on.
• Your image must be a resolution of 800*600 or lower. If it is not, your picture will not be in the voting thread.
• Each photographer cannot vote for himself, they must vote for the others
• The picture should get submitted with: the name of the car, where it was taken or at what event, the date, and the type of camera.

Why "common car"? And what does that mean exactly?

Sauc3

For all those confused, check voting (http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18379), it will be explained.

Personally I don't see the point, as the automotive photography competition should be about just that..the photography. The car itself should not be important, so you could use a common car in the other competition too and should have the same chance of winning as somebody who took a picture of a supercar.

That discussion has already been had, and the voting thread come and gone, and there was a good number of people who were for the competition. If people DID post great pictures of normal cars in the normal thread then this wouldn't have come up. It's here now, and I'd prefer if that discussion would be kept out of this thread, thanks.

I'm using imageshack since everytime I try to post my picture using the UCP attachment system, it lowers the quality, makes it grainy and a smaller size.

Thats a E20 Bimmer, which last time I check a used one cost less than 2k, depends on how far you went with fixing it, I think that can be had under 30k US...old Datsun can be had for sub 3k for one....

at the same token, a new GTI golf can cost over 30K as well...

Mine has cost about 6 grand over 2 years of competition, that includes purchase price. There are tons of other budget racers that don't exceed 10k some even 4 or 5. I don't think amateur motorsports would exist as we know it if all race cars cost 60k to build.

Have you taken a look at the first post in this thread? See the theme? That's not a hatchback, so that won't count this week. Also do you know if it falls in the price categories? I'm willing to let you change it, as it's week one, but in the future please read the first post as they will contain themes for the following weeks.
EDIT: Oook so it got taken down before I posted mine up. Good.

I'm also open to suggestions on themes guys, just PM with an idea (has to be a common car), and I'll see if they're useable.

That is a coupe. If the 240Z is an hatchback, an F40 is a minivan.

RacingManiac
10-11-2005, 09:25 AM
Shouldn't a hatchback be defined as having a "hatchback"? Which 240Z does have. While a hatchback is not limited to no. of doors neither. Clio 2 doors can also be a coupe, but it is still a hatchback...While F40 definitely is not a minivan as it doesn't have a capacity of greater than 2 passenger, and it has no rear door of anykind(sliding or not). It could be a hatchback though...

240Z technically is a GT, not a sportscar....

A Clio 2 doors is not a coupe. Although the Racing cars of the first series came with the badge "coupe". It's plain stupid if you ask me. A coupe is by definition, a 2 door car in wich the roof merges into the tail of the car in a soft and long curve.

The thing of calling the F40 a minivan was, obviously, a joke.

I really think taht calling it a coupé is (like in the case of the Clio) forcing the definition. I don't know what to call it though.

Maybe 'common' isn't the best word for use in the title. Maybe 'uncool,' as 99% of the people who vote in the comps opt for the coolest looking car, not necessarily the photo.
