Go, vote!
Which of these will win a race around 'ring?

Elise. Lighter, better handling, 'nuff said.

There's a good chance some parts would fall off the Elise before the finish...so I say the Boxster wins.

that has no doubt the Elise would win the race

Check it yourself on GT4.
There are some great straights where the power matters, and the Boxster goes very well around corners, so it would probably win. Of course the Elise driver would have a bigger smile than the Boxster driver at the end of the race. ;)

depends on the track.
The Elise beat the Boxters every time they show up at Knockhill.
You need to get a REAL Porsche to start coming close :D

In terms of track time, a Boxster S is more efficient than a standard 997. Confirmed by EVO 911 fanboys. :D So I guess it qualifies as a real Porsche. ;)
Knockhill is very different from the ring, wich has huge straights.

yep, Knockhill is about handling as long as you have "enough" power.
and only just noticed it was round the 'ring ( was that a late edit sunk ?? )
yeah the extra 10mph will make a difference on the long straight and I don't think the hadnling difference woudl make up for it !

Voting Boxter.

It'll be faster round the straights of the ring which is quite a fast track in many places. What the boxter makes up on the straights, the elise won't be able to make up through the corners.

I may be biased but PORSCHE OWNS..not to mention in the toronto star the Boxster S was selected by the test drivers as most fun car to drive.

The Elise is hard to get into, but it has incredible acceleration

yeah but ill be suprised if they tested the elise 'cause it only just reached Canada, so it wouldn't have been declared the best if the elise was around.

I've heard lack luster things about the boxter and I hear only praise for the go-kart-like elise....I go Lotus

I'm going Boxster.

As M & A said, the long straights plus the long up hill sections will hurt the Elise (VTEC). Plus the Boxter S handling is more neutral so probably you could drive closer to the limit than in the elise (that armco is close to the track!).

Elise seems to be the general concensus.

Even with Ring's long straights the Elise is not outmatched by the boxter, it accelerates faster than the Boxter S:

Elise: 0 - 60 = 4.6 secs
Boxter S: 0 - 60 = 5.7

And factor in the Elise's better handling, I'd go Lotus. It would be interesting to see how it would match up against the new Cayman though. :)

Matra et Alpine

taz there aren't many corners on Nordschleife where you drop to 0 and then wan to accelerate to 60 :)
Losing 10mph at the top end on the long straights easily losese you MANY seconds that aren't really returnable when the slowest you're takign a corner is 50-60 :D

Yes but in the long straights top speed is counted more on, bro :)

Stick a supercharger on the Elise...that'll solve that problem!! :D

Have both the Elise and Boxter S been tested on the Top Gear track? I'm too lazy to look it up. :)

Porsche Boxster S
Power 260 bhp / 194 KW @ 6200 rpm
Power to weight ratio 0.2 bhp / kg
Top Speed 264 km/h / 164 mph

Lotus Elise
Power 189 bhp / 141 KW @ 7800 rpm
Power to weight ratio 0.22 bhp / kg
Top Speed 241 km/h / 150 mph

I dont know the track but how long and how often would they be at their top speed? The elise should have pretty good if not better top end acceleration as it gets most of its power at a higher rpm then the porsche. So i say elise.

WHERE you get the power is not as important as how wide the power band is and what the gearing is.
Anyone got power grapsh for them ? I know where I can get Elise, never seen Porsche anywhere though.
PS: there are lots of places at Nordshcliefe where you sit on the rev limiter :D ( presuming the driver has the skill and balls :D )

This is true, i didnt take into consideration shift points and gearing. and i have no prior knowledge of this track either. But overall it is close, and the elise is made more for this then the boxster as well.

Thanks Matra. :)

Lotus Elise Sport 190 1.28.2
New Boxter 1.28.7
Lotus Elise 111S 1.35.6

Looks like the Boxter has the 111S clearly beat on a tight track but very equal to the Sport 190. I would guess the Boxter's advantage over the 111S would be greater on the Ring due to it's higher top speed.

Check it yourself on GT4.

There aren´t any Porsche cars in GT4, so no comparison is possible. Don't know about Forza. The closest is the RUF 3400S but that isn't even close to a Boxster S.

Next best thing... trust on the magazine bozos:

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=31&article_id=1949&page_number=13

The Boxster beat the Elise by 1.4 secs in this track which is obviously not the ring. Make your own conclusions.

I´m sticking to the Porsche.

Season 6 - Episode 6, right near the end i'm pretty sure.

And about the cars... I think the Elise would win because of it's lightweight and handling abilities. I don't think the horsepower will matter, even on the ring with its long straights and high-speed corners.
