yo may read the first test drive of the CaymanS and the drivers impressions about it as the best affordable porsche handlin which makes it as well the best in the world... but we all know that for the mid-engine lay-out Elise is the best... so which one would be the best???

Three things:
1. Did you just say the Cayman is the best in the world but the Elise is best?
2. Which Elise?
3. Best at what?

I suppose if you wanted to shell out lots of money for gas as well as had some kids tto tote around than yeah, the Porsche is for you.

But I would rather have an Elise.

Elise fuel mileage = 23 city, 27 highway

Cayman = 20 city, 28 highway

Not enough difference to quibble over.

Cayman, not Cayenne.

Why compare the hard top version of the Porsche to the open version of the Lotus?

Why not the Caymen vs the Exige, or the Elise vs Boxster?

What's with all these Porsche vs. Lotus threads?

CONCLUSION: Porsche for higher class, Lotus for better fun.

Lotuses aren't classy... how?

1) cheap in price
2) not luxurious at all
3) more like a car to have fun with than to cruise around and enjoy

Premiership footballers wouldn't buy a Lotus.

Not that they have a sense of "class", or taste...

It's more of a sports car, not a boyracer's car.

maybe because they both say posh.....

either way, i would rather have the elise. i have seen only 1 more of them than i have seen cayman's (which is precisely 0) but i dont expect to see many middle aged rich women driving elises.

So why aren't you using you old account then?

You do know that use of multiple accounts is against forum rules.

Yeah, i do. I forgot my password to Cadillac Cien. I know that's pretty ironic, but then again, for the past months I was busy with my exams. So I didn't really bother to log-in lest remember my password.

I know, there's always the password retrieve function, but I have too many e-mail addresses till I forgot which one I used. And even if I DID remember, I wouldn't be able to remember my password for that! I often change my password, you see.

And I was getting quite bored with the Cien, so I started up again.

Nothing wrong with Toyota, just this one engine. Co-developed with Yamaha, the 1.8 VVTL-i has been known to seize at high RPMs. Funny, since Lotus chose this engine so the Elise would be reliable enough for it's US intro.

Lotus' engines aren't too good, either. 'Cept for the Esprit's.

nothing to do with reliability.

It was all to do with the COSTS to make the K-series engine meet US specs.

The sad thing is that it turns out of Lotus had ASKED powertech then it coudl have been done for a lot less than Lotus had imagned :(

Oh...an article I remember reading about the Elise debut, touted the Toyota drivetrain as giving the Lotus the best of both worlds; Japanese reliability and Lotus sportscar know-how. I guess I presumed too much from that statement. Always learn something on UCP :)

I would take the Elise/Exige in a heartbeat. They have very light weights and can handle very well. Plus they have huge fun factors.
