imagine how it sounds when the police are chasing someone down the high street at about 70MPH... especailly in oxford because of the old buildings car sounds echo quite a bit when driven agressively...
I doubt if they will need a siren!!!

It's all 53 year old Vauxhall Senator V6s in Herts. And Astra Gls with no wheel trims. That Lambo looks rude though, you'd shit your pants if you saw that in your mirrors!

Looks like a PR stunt to me. Its like the old picture of a Lotus Esprit police car ... it was never actually used. Its just Lotus got permission to fit one of their Esprits with police markings. The police officer and the bike rider in the Esprit picture were Lotus workers.

Looks like this picture was taken at Lamborghini London in Knightsbridge (i think its in Knightsbridge) ... recon its PR.

That probably is a PR stunt.

However, Humberside Police (in Hull, where I used to live and they really need the horses to catch the little toe rags who go joyriding every other night) have a hot Subaru Impreza and used to have a Ford Escort Cosworth for rounding up errant speedsters. They also have made some interesting modifications to the old highway patrol Vauxhall Senators to create the quickest dog teams to the scene of a crime in the country.

It works like this:

Subaru chases joyriders until they're cornered. The Senator(s), driven by a traffic cop with a dog handler as passenger and two German Shepherds in the back, stays as close as it can (the old 3.0 litre Senators are quick, but not quick enough for the Subaru - they're never more than 30 seconds or so behind, mind you). The Senators screech to a halt, have a quick release on the rear doors and the German Shepherds run off to chew on the joyriders. Apparently it's been very effective. I'm not surprised! Who would steal a car, knowing that your evening is likely to finish in the middle of a playing field on the wrong side of a very big dog with very big teeth?!

I've pulled up beside one of the Senators at traffic lights one evening on my push bike and the dogs scared the $hite out of me by barking their heads off at me when I wasn't expecting them to!! Anyway, this was their current toy when I lived there - and I can verify it's true because I've seen it leaving the central police station in Queen's Gardens. They might even have something else by now:

the police here have taken to using tuned imports (skylines, 200sx etc) that they have confiscated off stupid drivers. so a V8 isn't good enough anymore?
anyway they take these imports and find other hotted up cars, and rev at them at the traffic lights. if the other person races, they arrest them...

There's a maroon Kawasaki ZZR1100 sports bike that tags on the end of guys out on the Scottish roads for a 'blast'. Hidden camera in the fairing and tail. They keep up with the group - which occasionaly may just go a little above the limit :) - and then arrange a police stop ahead of the pack, pull em in and book them all.

:( nasty :(

let's see in australia the Victorian cops have a couple of 255kw HSV GTO coupes, all the highway cops have 260kw Ford XR8s or 250kw Holden SSs and few places have WRXs for urban work. In Canberra the AFP have a few VZ calais which are tuned up, and supercharged I've heard as they are fast response cars

Hmmmm... they're treading a fine line:

entrapment, in law, the instigation of a crime in the attempt to obtain cause for a criminal prosecution.
http://www.answers.com/entrapment&r=67
The police are definitely instigating!

Oh well. :(
I suppose these guys should go and find an air strip somewhere instead anyway, but it doesn't seem a very fair way of catching them!

my freind in a supra got booked for 'changing lanes too fast'. i was behind him following his every move (we were heading to the north coast) and the cop completely ignored me, even though i was doing the exact same thing (which was legal as far as i can tell)

... but has no obsticals and doesn't have to go around corners, thus has no trouble keeping up with any vehicle on a UK road at least and can see you from miles away. :p

(Granted, they might have a little trouble keeping up with a supercar on a long stretch of open, empty freeway like you get in the US, but then you'd chase him with one of these!

Something like that here as well. Though, our county has a new C6 Corvette Police car that is for "Highway Patrol."

But whoever drive it is a speed demon. I've seen the car blow by me doing 90 chasing no one....no lights, no nothing. And we apparently have some kind of new Ford police car coming next month.

That car in the photo is a Magnum, yes, but the location is Vancouver BC. That lot there is under the Cambie Street Bridge, and it is the Vancouver Police Department's car lot.

Out here in the Lower Mainland (Vancouver and surrounding burbs) we have the usual assortment of Ford Crown Vic's and Chevy Impala's. There are quite a few unmarked cars too, like Bonneville's, 05 Nissan Maxima's, as well as the usual Ford's and Chevy's. There are rumour's that there are Impreza's lurking about too. In BC we have different police force's as well, the RCMP, Vancouver Police Dept., Delta Police Dept., etc. Depending on who you cross you can be nailed by any of the above cars. As for the Lambo PR car, they have done the same here. We have had PR Cars in the form of: 04 Civic SiR, A Jaguar S-Type, a Toyota Matrix, and an Impreza WRX.
