I want to be a car designer. Although I think I suck.

Can someone give me an idea to design. I need the following items.

:Company
:Year (has to be within the next five years)
:Name
:Body style
:Size of car
:Type of engine
:Style (retro, contemporary, new age)

Maybe you should ask Canay for some tips.

Get a few car designing books, such as "How to Design Cars Like a Pro"

Practice makes perfect... although even that isn't enough sometimes.

Actually practice makes permanent. If you practice drawing like crap you ain't gonna draw perfect :) .

But yea you definitely should go out and take a look at some car drawing books, i'm sure they have a lot to offer.

I'll give you a challenge, as that'll be what most designers will have to overcome.

Company:Rover
Year:2010
Name:Be original. Make something up.
Body Style: Sedan/Coupe
Size of car:Mid size, median price
Type of engine:inline 4 and V6
Style:Doesn't matter.
This car would be a car to resurrect the Rover badge and reinvent the dead company. This car would have to be very well designed in order to sell well.

There you go. Add that to mine. MG would be the sproty Rover, as it once was.

Try and see if you can beat Renault ...

Using the engine of the Nissan 350Z design a new Alpine-Renault that plays retro on the A110.

Mark Stehrenberger(sp?), the illustrator for Motor Trend did a nice retro Apine A110 rendering some years ago...but I believe his design would stand well today, if I can find it online I'll show you.

Ah well, I thought it was a nice base to build on as it carried obvious features from the original but not too much.

Ok. I didn't have much time, but I did the best that I could. The Alpine still manages to look retro while containing the 350Z doors, and rear fenders. The MG, I kinda forgot what a midget looked like, so I made an MGB Coupe instead. I did both of these in 3 minutes, so sorry that they're crap.

Ok, here it is. I don't think it'll fit a W-16 though. And it's on a scrap piece of paper.

Ok... 20010? That's like 18,000 years, but okay. I'm gonna do it like that, just to see what happens. And why doesn't anyone ever say, oh nice drawing. You assholes!

Yeah! Here we come 20010!

This is suck, it hovers, and is made entirely out of CF. It has an unpainted CF underbody, and it's supposed to be made like one giant spoiler.

NIce on the Alpine, I like the front bonnet line retro treatment. Was hoping that the ONLY thign from the 350 wodul ahve been the engine. IF Alpine ever build one it better NOT have the engien in the wrong place and return to the A110 rear treatment.

Nice skill there.

Got another.

Matra Bagheera retro ? please .....

Hint this time, when doing French cars it's worth remembering that the best French designs are very feminine with curves and sensuous lines, not slashes and prominent features.

If you can rip out sketches that fast and they look pretty decent, you have SKILLZ. Don't ignore your talent get into design.

that looked like an aston martin meets chevy SS concept.. [not the truck]

Think you can try one of the Midget? The B looks pretty nice.

Nice, but on the bottom one I can clearly see bits of a 997, RX7 (3rd Gen) and 350Z. I realize some cars have similarities, but that one just has too many coincidences. Keep it up, but next time go over the 'copied' parts and try to design new ones. :)

(I think you misunderstood him-he wanted an Alpine using a 350Z engine, not a 350Z rebody. ;))

Hey guys, thanx for all the help. And MyPorsche, feel free to make an entry. All doors are open. In fact, I'm making a thread right now for this whole subject.
