Haha, its ok. I know Yellow isnt for everyone. I like to stand out and be different and noticed. Actually yellow is probably one of the safest motorbike colors to have as well. People can see that a Bright Yellow bike is coming up and they are more aware. I love my bike!

That makes a lot of sense. :)
All my mates having silvers, blues and blacks and they keep getting knocked off! I always liked the concept of motorbikes but was always too scared of the falling off bit to act on it.

Is that what the Swifts max out at. :p New recient one, drove my self 90mph in my blazer, the speedometer only goes to 110. It was on a country road after everything was redone in the engine and tranny. Not a top speed riding, but driving myself it is. :)

Hi..

I've done 145mph a couple of times in my old Fiat Bravo HGT...

But I felt quicker doing 80mph in my Parolin Revolution 100cc 2-stroke PCR engine 28bhp at 19000rpm!

I drove the Stilo Schumacher with the Prodrive exhaust - that sounded great. 5-cylinder motors have an odd noise, but I like it!

Quickest I've driven is 170mph in a 612 Scaglietti at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground.

180km/h in a 1994 Ford Falcon EF model (6cyl) on Adelaide's Southern Expressway in 1999. That engine had close to 380,000km on the clock.

Equalled that in, of all things, a 1.2L Toyota Echo. Have to admit, that was downhill LOL. Those small Toyota's get very flighty at those speeds. Thankfully I'm still here to tell about it as I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. It was also about 2am.

The fastest I've driven so far was 115mph in my Corsa. 5th gear had 1,500rpm to go before the redline and it was still pulling but my slip road (off ramp) was coming up, so I had to back off...According to the brochure the top speed is 112mph, I reckon based on that little performance I may even see 120...:)

What's confusing is that in Wales earlier this year, I managed 110mph in 4th - so either 5th gear really is just an overdrive gear or it does have a bit more to give.

Same for my little red Suzi... Officially the top speed is 160 km/h, but I managed to do that in 4th gear on the rev limiter one day. Then fifth gear was left... The absolute maximum I have ever managed was 190 km/h in a long, steep tunnel, with beaufort 6 in my back and a very long way to reach it :D

On my vacation in Germany from which I have just returned from fifteen minutes ago, I had the chance to drive a fabulous silver Audi R8. I hit 250 km/h on the testing track. Yes I got lucky again... Wolfsburg was great fun and very educational...

Tell me more

I was thinking of going to wolfsburg myself, is it worthwile? and how did you score an R8 ?:)

In wolfsburg there is this attraction park called Autostadt. It is really modern and cool looking. In there are basically pavillions for each of the VW brands, with some sort of show (lightshow, movie or something similar) and the cars presented to you.

You will also find a "Zeithaus", which is a museum with classic cars. It is worth a visit ,but more aimed at families and stuff.

Have some coffee there, it is absolutely outstanding :) Food and drinks are very well taken care off and of very good quality. Also a tip is to flash any kind of card resembling a Student Card, as they barely look at it and you get some hefty discount.

In the R.Dieselstrasse you will find a kind of hidden VW-only museum. Don't even dare to skip that !!! You will find many unique gems from VW. For example the very first prototype of the (old + new) Beetle and dozens of forgotten prototypes and design studies from every age of time. Also the very first Transporter and more unique stuff like that. A full report will follow soon as I took almost 200 pictures there alone !

The audi story is a very long one :) Spending my time in a bar in the city, I got into a conversation with a older man. He happened to be a "Forschung und Entwicklung Ingenieur", better known as R&D engineer for VW. He was very interested in my studies and we got alng very well. He gave me his card and said I should call him and he'd show me some things.

I called him the next day and we made an appointment. He gave me a special tour of the factory, even though it was closed for the company vacation. Very cool, pity though i could not take pictures, obviously.

Anyway we got to a small test track on the terrain of the plant with a variety of cars there.. Mostly VW's but also some others including Citroens,Peugeots and others. And also a lone R8. Then offcourse my big mouth took over and you can imagine yourself what happened next :D

(and yes, i did spin it once)

True. I'd say a 10% deviation would be about right for almost every car on the road... That makes 171 km/h, which is still pretty insane.

Well, by comparing the speed on my car's speedo to the readout on the SatNav, there was a 1mph difference. So I'm confident that my car can do a little more than the manufacturer claims...but I'm afriad I too am going to have to call BS on the 190km/h (118mph for the record) Alto thing...TBH I bet it tops out on a flat road at 95mph.

For me to claim I can do 115mph, that's only 3mph up on the manufacturer's claim. For the Alto it's a whopping 25mph over and above the manufacturer's claim. I don't think the manufacturers would be that conservative, nor do I think your car has the capability to go faster than a 1.6 Astra/Golf/Focus.

I'd be prepared to bet money on it.:)

I find it hard to believe as well. The Mini starts to get beaten by the wind at 190km/h (and while it has the aerodinamic properties of a brick it also has 170bhp). And a 90bhp Scenic Mk I tops out at approximately 180km/h.

Really? I've driven Dad's Mini One Diesel at 100mph (160km/h), and I've been in it when he's done 110mph and the rate of acceleration was still quite good. That's only got 75BHP and 125lb/ft of torque. Does it drop off rapidly after that then?

It's easy to get up to 190km/h (118mph), then acceleration starts to get difficult until you reach 200km/h (124mph). Reaching 210km/h (130mph) requires a big stretch of road. And I guess that to reach the theoretical top speed (222km/h-138mph), if it can, you'd need a massive amount of road. Mind you those accelaration sensations are all the time in 6th. If you use the gears through the redline acceleration is definitely more vigorous.

Well unless you have that massive stretch of road, if you're aiming to reach your top speed you practically have to redline the car on the way up the gears. I thought that was a given. :p

As said it wasn't on a flat road. Read a post somewhere above this...

I allready betted with a classmate, for 170 km/h. It ended up a few days later with 3 guys in a pub wasting his money :D When I just had my car (with old tires) I used to do some traffic light drag racing. One day I kept up with a MkII golf 1.6. However I slowed down at 100 km/h. Good fun and I was properly amazed myself !

It might be a tiny engine, but with 55 HP for 700 kg, it is still only 12.72 kg/hp. Compared to a regular hatchback with 100 hp for 1200 kg, 12 kg/hp, it is not such a big difference as you expect!!!

I had the same in my Audi (also 170 hp). Till 180 km/h it was really quick but then till 200 it went somewhat slower and above 210 it went really slow. I reached the official topspeed(220 km/h) a few times which is quite nice for a car that was 14 years old back then already. I mostly did it at night when the highway was empty. I have to say those speeds at night are quite scary and I dont think I would do that again so easy.

So 220 km/h or 137 mph is the fastest I ever went.

the fastest i have been while driving myself was recently on the autobahn was 160km/h in fifth, until i realised it was a SIX speed!! (the car was a hire car. i'm used to driving a 1999 peugot 206 five speed non-turbo diesel upto 110km/h.) once i realised, i droped it into 6th, the tacho dropped to 3000rpm, hit the accelerator, and got to 200km/h (3500rpm!!! - not even red-lined, thats 4500rpm)!! cruised at that speed for about 10mins, my girlfriend was asleep, and it was very stable. very nice ride. and great acceleration in all gears. we drove for about 4hrs averaging 150km/h on the autobahn plus slow country and town driving, and all we used was a bit over 40L of diesel!! not bad... probably could have gone faster, but the addrenalin was pumpin fast and there was more trafic on the road... and my bum was eating holes in my pants. Good power, good economy, very comfortable. i want one.

Some JDM cars speedos stop at 180km/h, including for instance the Nissan Skyline (at least the old ones), because IIRC they were limited to that speed. While Australian cars might have the limiter removed being RHD they still retain the JDM dashboard.

What a load of absolute bollocks. Think about it: If I came along telling you that my Corsa could do 25mph more than the manufacturer claims (that would be 137mph), and could therefore keep-up with a BMW 530i in a straight line, I'd be laughed all the way off the forum.

There is no way on Earth that the Alto could keep up with a 100BHP small family car (Astra, Focus etc.). A Mk4 Astra 1.6, for example, does 0-60 in 10.5 seconds - the same as my car. And you couldn't keep up with me. :p

Well: When the road conditions seemed "right" to try to extract some performance from the C4, the result was a GPS verified 121mph. I'm not sure though how much more it could give with a longer stretch of road.

Surprisingly, despite being a comfort-orientated car the high-speed handling is pretty impressive. It feels rock-solid steady but you still get all of the sensations of just how fast 120mph in a car is; and more importantly just what it takes in terms of concentration and commitment to drive a car safely at that sort of speed.

I haven't tested the outer limits of speed on my Busa powered Deman SR7 (Seven Clone) but the manufacturer claims 140 mph.
What I do know for a fact is that I can get from 0 to 60 in less than 3.5 secs.

I once beat a guy from the front door at McDonalds to the counter...I was starving....I dont know how fast I was going but I must have been really travelling. Then again I have gone flat out in a race tuned Formula Renault single seater with GJ in Staffordshire England, probably about 165MPH....but felt like Mac1!!

no. a VT clubsport cruises at 220 suprisingly comfortably

considering we are comparing two different cars i would expect a 190kw-225kw engine to hit 220k without much trouble. Standard VT's with the 3.8 dont do 220 comfortably.;)
There's a couple of boys on Youtube pressing 200kp/h in 3.8lt N/A Commodores.
Issue is when they hit 3rd gear and want to change into top they have this issue of not wanting to, When flat out in 3rd it wont shift into 4th, So you need to back off some and let it hit 4th then go harder after a little brake.
But with the short gears and diff gears they probably only run 210-220 anyway because of the cut-off being 5700-5900rpm and you will hit that flat out in 4th..

You're exactly right Slick about them holding 3rd unless you ease up. Back in the late 1980s I discovered that little trick in a VN V6 auto rental and saw a sustained 215 km/h (indicated) which at that speed was definitely fast but not exactly comfortable

Vns wernt comfterble at 60 let alone 200.

I rember how dissapointed my friends where when their VS v8 commadore topped out at 185 and then they got overtaken by another friend In and EB xr6 which powered up to 220 km/h (claimed) and Id almost beleive it too all considering how quickly he moved away.

Best I've done is 126 in a Dodge Ram with a Cummins, best my own vehicle can do is 102.
