How fast have you actually driven (or been driven, if you don't have a driver's license or a car)?

My topspeed is 255 km/h in a Ferrari Testarossa, NOT driven by me, it was on a Italian cars track day.
My topspeed with me behind the wheel is 205 km/h in my
Peugeot 106 gti (that's the top speed of the car).

So, what's your's?

There you have a nice topic. :)

I guess the top speed I've achieved must some 270 km/h on a FZR1000 exup. But bikes are not hour subject, so it must be around 240 km/h some 3 times, but always with me at the wheel. First time I had that feeling driving a friends '88 BMW735i. Easy task!
Second time I was driving a borrowed Volvo 850 2.0 GLT. I never thought that thing could be driven so fast. I was clocking some 210 km/h when I finaly nailed it. I was surprised to se it happily reach 240 without any effort. It was rainning and the straight was over. I really don't believe it would go any further than that but it was damn fast getting there.
Las t time I was expecting it, cruising happily with my father's Mercedes c280. Fast and silent. The Mercedes old school.

I'm very sad that it wasn't me in that Testarossa.

My Topspeed was 250 km/h with a Mercedes Benz E500 (Daddy's Car).

With my 200SX, I reach 240 km/h on tacho. I think it's around 230 km/h...

My grey-import-from-Japan R33 Skyline GTS25t is supposed to be electronically limited to 180km/h, as all Jap-domestic cars are supposed to be.

However during a motorway drag with a mate of mine (who was in a '25t as well) I wound out third gear, flat shifted to 4th, wound out 4th gear, flat shifted to 5th and realised "that's not something I've done before".

It dawned very quickly on me that I was going very fast as I looked at the Tacho which read 6000-or-so-rpm in 5th gear. My eyes flicked left to the Speedo and saw the needle crashing repeatedly at the 6 o'clock position. (Speedo only reads to 180km/h on Jap-domestic cars).

Based on gearing that was prolly in the 230km/h mark. What is amazing is that after you hit a speed like that and slow back down- even to about 150km/h, it feels stupidly slow......

My mate hit the limiter at ~190km/h and said it was like I rocketed away and that he hit a brick wall.

The fastest I have done in recent times is prolly about 140km/h. Even then, slowing down to 100km/h feels dreadfully slow.

my top speed was just over 245 kph in a friends tt, unfortunately i wasnt driving:(.

With me driving, it was about 180 in my dads volvo v70 t5.

In my car, it is about 120, because that is about as fast as that piece of s*it can go.

I was in my Brother in laws 2001 Corvette, I think it was a Zo6. I also made a mistake when I said my topspeed. I was in my friends 1999 vette and went 155 not 185 (close together on the keypad) My bad

Fastest I ever accelerated and rode was on a Yamaha racing bike. A friend let me ride it and I was accelerating hard, before I knew it was doing 170kph in 3rd! That was the signal for me to ease off, as I have very little experience with motorbikes. The guy took me with him and we did 270kph !!!! I was on the back and my helmet started to lift badly!
In a car fastest behind the wheel: 180kph in a Celica. Not behind the wheel: 270 in a BMW M5 without limiter!!!
Best ride not behind the wheel which appeared to be the fastest: in Lotus 7 replica Formula 27, 200kph!!! That was the greatest ever.

mando
05-28-2003, 02:04 PM
wel it's a 2.0 16v turbo, 4wheel drive, 6speed, 204hp, 280Nm, 0-100km/h in 6.8sec. and a topspeed of 240km/h

it's a bit tuned: bigger intercooler, hybrid turbo (K16/K26), new software, sparkplugs, 550cc injectors and a 2 1/2" open exhaust what brings the power up to 360hp, 510Nm, 0-100km/h 4.6sec. and a topspeed of 295km/h

I love speed, I live in switzerland and other here the limit speed on the highways is 120 km/h around 75mph . There are too many radars on highways and policemen are everywhere. The police in Switzerland is very very rich, they got a lot of maney. For chasing people on highways they got big cars like, Ferrari maranello, BMW M5, Benz E55 AMG, Porsche 911 turbo BMW 540i and all the BMW that you can imagine. Police here is sponsored by BMW and Volvo. You see beating the 140km/h can bring you in jail.

So for beating my top speed I'm gone in Germany. The paradies no limit speed on the highway. I have two cars a Z3 1.9l the top speed is very ridiculous, with that car I have reached 200km/h (125mph) it is the maximum, but with my slk 230 kompressor I have reached 263km/h, in fact the real top speed of this car is 230km/h but I have made some big mods. But I have a friend who has reached 332km/h in his Porsche GT2 with some great mods. It was not on a track (OH MY GOD HE IS FOOL) it was on a French Highway and now he doesn't have driving licence no more.

Speed is a goo feeling but please think that you are not alone on the road.

I've heard about Switzerland's policy on motor cars, they are so cruel! Why is it that the Swiss government really hates car-related things? I know that racing has been forbidden since the heavy Le Mans disaster of '55.

Apparently i got 0-60 in 2.1 and 0-100 in 4.7. Driving such a powerful car is something most people don't get to do, so I cherish my job! :D

Fastest I've ever been is 157mph in a naturally aspirated, bone stock 94 Toyota Supra going down this long backroad where I live. I was in the passenger seat and my friend Manny was behind the wheel. Fastest I have ever driven with me behind the wheel is 120mph in my 96 Dodge Neon. It had a 2.0L Sohc motor with a 3 speed automatic tranny, aftermarket intake and a canister muffler welded to the stock 2 1/4 inch exhaust pipe. I achieved this speed while whooping up on a Acura Integra GSR.

Yes that's a really pleasant car. I use it for my all day car. The accelerations are really good, the confort is like in a BMW 5 series. And the noise of the engine hummm a real delight. Porsche has made a really good job on the 996. I hope the 997 will not lost all these advantages.
If your cousin has enough money, he must take the communication package. It's really fun. And tell him to buy a radar detector, cause you can't cruise at at the speed limit with a such car. ;) :D

Could get up to 150 on my unfaired, tricked bandit 600 aka "Bad-Boy".

BTW, average speed on a lap of the 37.75 mile Isle of Man circuit is 128mph by the late David Jefferies in a GSX-R 1000. Production 600 record is just short of 120mph. This is a ROAD circuit with real corners and bumps and kerbs.

To quote the race site ... Ride the course on your own bike, and then sit outside a pub and watch racers skimming stone walls, wheelying over blind crests and topping 190mph on public roads.

Seen it, thanks.

As an aside for us bike fans, I would recommend getting ANY of the Duke DVD's for any of the recent Isle of Man TT races. The on-bike and on-sidecar cameras are superb and scary. If you're interested ( and have the bandwidth ) I could maybe rip it and share.

Wow, that's some pretty fast speeds clocked up here!

I've managed 180 mph (290 Kph) in an unrestricted pre release Jaguar XJR (with slight modifications), I wasn't driving and it was round the bowled track at the MIRA testing ground in the Midlands England.

but with myself behind the wheel I managed 145 mph (233 kph) in an Jaguar S-type R. which was axilerating!

But enough Flexing, speeding on public roads is wrong, and shouldn't be condoned :p

My topspeed is 255 km/h in a Ferrari Testarossa, NOT driven by me, it was on a Italian cars track day.
My topspeed with me behind the wheel is 205 km/h in my

wel it's a 2.0 16v turbo, 4wheel drive, 6speed, 204hp, 280Nm, 0-100km/h in 6.8sec. and a topspeed of 240km/h

it's a bit tuned: bigger intercooler, hybrid turbo (K16/K26), new software, sparkplugs, 550cc injectors and a 2 1/2" open exhaust what brings the power up to 360hp, 510Nm, 0-100km/h 4.6sec. and a topspeed of 295km/h

Things to understand:

1) Murcielago seems to be the #1 most ownership-claimed car online.

The advantage to claiming your uncle has a car is that it's a great excuse for not being able to take pictures, etc.... you just claim that he lives far away, or that you don't see him very often. That's something you can't generally say about a Dad :)

about the whole uncle and ownership thing... my uncle actually does own a nice car... Chevy Corvette 2001 convertible :) although he'd NEVER let me drive it.... I'm lucky to be taken along for a ride :P

He also has a donkervoort and a Ferrari Daytona (needs to be fixed)

Fastest I have ever driven is in my brothers Opel Senator 3.0 6 cylinder line engine. I managed to get to 240 km/h... he says he's done 270 himself, which I believe judging from the power I had left at 240.

5 mins after I did 240 we were standing alongside the road with a flat tyre so I was quite happy to have slowed down and not gone for the 270.... imagine that tyre blowing at that speed :S

Quite. I mostly cringe when I read of people doing these speeds on public roads. "Whats your top speed?" is my least favorite thread for this reason. I can imagine some tool reading it and going out to top it. Easy really. Push the throttle down and wait until it cant go any faster. The rest will take care of itself.

Im a hypocrite. Ive have done a couple of "peak speed" things on similar roads but can never avoid thinking about what would have happened if? after the event. We take unneccessary risks when we do this because other than the thrill, what is the point? And if its only for the thrill, is it worth the consequences? You have no freinds at those speeds.

I don't agree with that cause I know someone who did that. and his nephew was 19 years old. it was a Ferrari 550M. So you can't affirm that cause I'm sure that there are people in this world who can lend their Ferrari Enzo or I don't know what kind of crazy car to their Nephew... but I agree with others points.

I read the post. Whats your point? Just because you didnt take it to the supposed top speed does not mean you were somehow acting safely or responsibly. As far as speeding all the time gos, your only breaking the law if you are speeding by breaking a prescribed limit. Its when you are travelling too fast for safety that it becomes dangerous and irresponsible.

Here's a pic of the tachometer I took while trying to believe it myself lol. The car could go much faster I'm sure of that but I couldn't trust the tyres at those speeds (the road was pretty clear), & I also kinda chickened out after I saw how fast the trees were passing by(or was it the other way around? :p ).

Suzuki Hayabusa.

Might be even faster than the Tomahawk since it is a lot liter. The stock, 180hp Hayabusa does 0-60 in about 2.8 (Don't know exactly, but I know is under 3) And the Tomahawk is supposed to do like 2.3? 2.5?
Imagine a 500hp Hayabusa....

Yes, it is suicide for some of us... but to that guy seems like a lot of fun

On a dyno, my car hit 240km/h.. on the street, just a touch over 200km/h.

Both these figures are weird because BMW claims a top speed of 220km/h for the 320i. I sat on 200km/h for a good couple of minutes and it wouldn't accellerate further than that.

Actually, it makes sense :) Manufacturers often slightly exaggerate performance figures. Regarding hitting 240km/h, that makes sense too...on a dyno, you're not working against the massive high-speed aerodynamic losses!

Wow, lots of posters going well over 200 MPH! The membership here must be very wealthy or very imaginative or both.

Let's see. A stock? M5 doing 205 MPH. RIGHT!

Did anyone do the math? What's the cd on an M5? Maybe .4 with a large frontal area? This does not compute.

Anyway, my stock C5 Corvette coupe has shown me 165 in the HUD. The owners manual says it will do 174, but finding a non-track spot to do this is difficult even down here in South Georgia. With a cd of .29, it just slips through the air, but gets a little "light-footed" at 165. It would still stay in its own lane on a rough two-lane backcountry road, but the optional Z51 suspension would be better.

maybe you should pay more attention to the posts. for one, MAYBE only half a dozen members have claimed to have reached speeds of 200 mile and those who have claimed to do that on public roads have met harsh responses. Second, the person who claimed to have reachde over 200mph in their M5, also said that it wasnt stock, that infact it had a G Power upgrade, whatever that is. i think an E39 would have a better drag coefficient than 0.4, thats almost as bad as a stock VL Commodore

Back in my "younger" stupider days (about 6 years ago) I got 191km/h (118 mph)@6100 rpm out of a 1987 Ford Telstar 2.0 EFi (similar to the Mazda 626 2.0i of the time). There was nothing else left. This was at 3 am on Auckland's southern motorway when noone else was around.
Also got 170 km/h (106 mph) out of a 1985 Ford Telstar 2.0 carb. Again nothing else left. Just shows what a difference EFi and 20 kW make to the top speed of the same basic model of car (the EFi had 87kW, the carb had 67kW).

Haven't seen over 140km/h since then though. And I'd advise using only racetracks, Autobahns or the road's in Australia's Northern Territory which don't have speed limits. Normal roads with heavy traffic flows are NOT the place to test top speeds.

mate i didnt get as far as i have on these forums from knowing nothing and making a fool of myself. You think i know nothing about drag co-efficients, i admit im not the expert on them, quite frankly im not the expert on anything, but i certainly dont know nothing about drag co efficients or aerodynamics in general at all. most sedans only get a CD of 0.5? WHAT??? is that in reverse or something, or for sedans from the 70's, because after the oil crisis's around the world there was alot of attention put into making the designs alot more slippery or technically known as reducing the drag co-efficient, and making them alot lighter all to lower fuel consumption. i think if anyone came up with a design of car that got a CD of 0.4, they would without a blink send it straight back to the drawing board or at least get the engineer's to work on the frontal aerodynamics.

i hope to God this is all just a lame joke on your behalf, because you have succeeded in making me thinkg of you as a f*ckwit

IBrake4Rainbows
05-04-2004, 04:36 AM
I think you'll find the average is about .32 for a normal car. The Chrysler Me Four-twelve has a drag coefficient of .38, mind. A car like the Vauxhall Calibra boasts a 0.26 coefficient.

I also believe the E39 BMW 5 series has a drag coefficient of .36, far off your quoted .4, the standard VL is actually quite a slippery shape, i wouldn't knock it for late 80's design, although the Cd does elude me at this time, i wouldn't be surprised if it was about .34 or so. The E39 has quite an upright front end, like the E36, but manages to not only look good but stay relatively slippery.

You've obviously done your homework (Not) on this matter, so it's funny to see YOU be made a fool of. Burning you is like burning my toast, all too easy once the heats on.

Have fun FPV, this ones all yours................

fpv_gtho

The VL no doubt would have been an improvement over the VK, and with it still being narrow bodied that would also have had its advantages, but the only quotes of a VL being under 0.4 that ive heard are for the Walkinshaw models. I dont know exactly but they had significant gains over the standard models

IBrake4Rainbows
05-04-2004, 04:51 AM
I'd actually think the Walkinshaw would be over the .4 because of the bodykit, it would have created more drag......

first impressions would certainly say that, especially given its 65kg worth of hood scoops, front and rear bumpers and side cladding, but then again it was also a Group A homologation so it wouldnt have 65kg of worthless, tacky bodykit on it for no reason. the Birdbath rear spoiler probably surprises the most in that it really has/had a purpose.

well it can be looked at a good way and a bad way. it is a good speed as you mentioned for a family sedan, but still something like the SV8 which is a wisker over 40K, someone could kill themselves doing 260km/h in a car that probably isnt aerodynamically sound for those speeds. after they done that though, Wheels got some idiot writing in saying that all the hype about the XR6T meant nothing after the speed trials as the SV8 managed 36km/h more than the 229km/h the XR6T got, and obviously missed where Wheels marked the XR6T as having a speed limiter (230km/h)

well i cant really comment on the Commodore at high speed, but anything over about 250km/h, the frontal aerodynamics of the Falcon start to get out of hand, and by the time you reach 300km/h like what Peter Luxon got his Phase 3 XR6T going, your taking up a whole runway trying to keep the car under control when you lift off the accelerator

Well its not unusual to see AU's getting 240km/h, mind you though i wouldnt want to be in one at those speeds (unless it was me driving, i think i'd feel marginally safer that way  ). If that had've been something recent i wouldnt be surprised if it was either a sting done at Brighton-Le-Sans along the Grand Parade, or out at Fairfield where recently the cops defected about 50 cars after they stopped them street racing. they caught everything, from an M3 to a van

And chevy luminas are rebadged commadores...ive catted to numerous americans who own them...usually with mixed comments....most are nice car but it aint no camaro.....they can also accept GTO sheet metal front and back! (we have a bloke at work with both monaro sheetmetal frnt and back on his commo) personally i like the GTOs looks better then the monarosmore subdued styleing...
also with that kind ofpower it would more then liklyhave afew mild mods done to it...are these figures at the wheels or at a the fly wheel?
and fpv there where alot of chevrolet 4 doors that got v8 power long before holden done it...4 door impalas and all the way back to the 50s....4 door 57 chevs mostly came out with 283s (same kind ofengine my fathers studebaker came out with) :)

yeah i realise that, thats why i noted Holden were practically the first to stick the Gen 3 LS-1 in a sedan, the small block back in the 50's, 60's and 70's wouldnt have been known as the Gen 3

you can check it at.....

www.chevroletme.com/
Now that we all know its a Commodore with a Gen III Chev rated at around 245kw depending on your fuel octane I suppose, we can farely easily see that your posted speed is innacurate.
Could you reconcile the other anomolies in you posts ? ie
my top speed was 280 Km/h with my Chevo Lumina SS

its my elder brothers car

a normal Chevorlate Lumina SS, with a 5.7 L V8 354 HP

i dont no if its modified or not

I have seen an advertisement for a DVD which says exactly that, you must have been the camera man, or
A: High
B: Sleep-Wishing
C: Both.

Heres a thought, come back when you can actually talk without all the BS trickling out of your mouth..............

Oh, and it never reache'd 375 KP/H, it reached about 295, even the DVD says that, you can't even lie well........

ummmmm isnt wind tunnels sitting stationary while haveing air and smoke pumped around the car testing areodynamics?....i rember reading anarticle in performance ford they stick tufts of wool over the car and generate certian speed with a gaint vacume that pushes air around your car at speed....and areas that there are turbulence or improper airflow still have tufts of wool still attached....so in all realisum my friend either you didnt reasherch it properly or your top speed is a big 0.....

Well this was in a private car,not the one you saw on the DVD and Mr.Nagata has reached over 300kph on the roads in the UK with the Top Secret Supra...its in Max Power.I don`t claim to know Mr.Nagata..i met him once and the next time i met him he brought me on the ride of my life.375kph in a Japanese Tunnel...not a wind tunnel..a road tunnel...they have lots in Japan..and they are famous for legendary top speeds..and they are also the setting for many of the amazing videos on the net!
I suggest you visit the Auto Salon Show in Toyko next year and meet Mr.Nagata like i did in 2001...he mite give u such a spin in one of his wonder cars...

Or, and heres the kicker, we could not bullshit!

Go back to Supercars.net, your kind might actually be appreciated there.

Get some proof of your encounter, a signed photo or something, and then, and ONLY then, i might believe your remarkably stupid rant.

My job as a moderator here is to clear riff-raff like yourself so the REAL car fans, not the boys who say "My Civic Wastes Mclaren F1's", can enjoy the forums.

Don't lie, it'll get you nowhere, and especially here. We can pick a fake a mile off. This is your final warning, any more bullshit from you and your banned.

just got my driving liscence temporarily suspended for doing 113 km/h on a 90 km/h highway. No where my top speed recors, but its just very annoying. And beleive it or not, just 15 minutes ago i read in the newspaper that they raised the maximum speed for that particular highway back to the initial 100 km/h it used to be !!

damn, thats really got to get under your skin. well its on a slightly different note, but in Victoria over here the government rides strongly on their no tolerancy scheme so you can get caught for 3km/h over the limit, but apparently the Victorian government has decided to lower its fines now

Why do i need proof? If its to hard for you too believe then stop acting like a child.Im not boasting, just answering the question that was asked at the start of the thread. If i told u i have done 800kph+ in a passenger jet would u still need proof...moderate yourself!

I have done about 110 mph or 177 kph in my Intrepid. There was no more pull left in the ole 3.3L and it took a long streach of road after about 100 mph. I believe that it could, in theroy, make the 120 mph limiter, but I dont know where one would find such a location to do so. Luckly, I have a friend with a 2001 Z06. I hope he brings me on the ride when he attempts to hit 150 mph. I'll keep my fingers crossed. And remember, you dont have to be good, but at least be careful!

Hmm, if you went 800MPH (You mean KP/H, surely...) in a passenger jet i could believe it, simply because it is plausable.
If you claim you were on concorde, i would like proof, but it is at least MILDLY believable.
If you say you've been driven about at 375Kp/h, i'd like proof, we are not ones for bullshit here.
back it up, or back away, it's a simple as that..........
You seem to think i'm the one being the child in all of this, I might be young, but i can smell the whiff of bullshit coming a mile off, and whats more adult anyway, lying or telling the truth? I think you'll find the latter, something which you are not...

And for the record, you are boasting, everyone here is.

My top speed (To keep on topic, adultly) I have managed a full 35 K/Ph on my Fathers old Mitsubishi Pajero, which we don't own anymore. I can post a pic of the car if your interested, but you probably wouldn't be, you don't believe in the truth anyway.

I hate to tell you mate but it still sounds like shit....im not goingto get as angery as IB4R in this instance but i will say your makeing a true arse out of yourself...why should you need proof? why should we believe you? and moderate ourselves...why its more fun moderating twits like you :)

The reason I came here was because of the people on SC.net ruining everything. This place is much better.

Now, seeing as I'm not legally old enough to drive on road, my driving stays strictly on my parents farm in my beautiful MK1 Nissan Micra :D Fastest i've driven it was about 35 mph (Im British so I don't work with KPH ;) )

Fastest i've been driven however is good. My cousin has an SW20 Toyota MR2 Turbo Jap Rev4 (Japanese spec Revision 4 Turbo's were the fastest MR2's made with 245bhp as standard). He's anti-ricer so there are no cosmetic changes especially because it has the nice rare silver paint. It's currently running at 300bhp from various mods like boosting at 19psi with a Boost Controller. I would go into more detail about the car but Im scared of bore-ing people :( Fastest we've had it was 160mph on an incredibly straight road near Brighton (UK). On a recent "booze cruise" however we've had it to 145mph on a road in France on the way to Belgium. On the way back we were so full of booze etc that we could only get to 110mph in the time it took us to get to 145mph. Ill shut up now ... I can see ZZZZ rising from the sky as I type.

190 kpH in a Mercury Mystique, for those of you in europe, it was the last gen Ford Mondeo with a 190HP V-6. This was going down a long back road. And if the owners of the car ever found this out, they'd no doubt kill me. It was about 4 or 5 years ago, so... keep it quiet ;)

110kph. Quite good consider it is 24 years old toyota KE70, 68 horsepower, poor aerodynamic, poor road condition, lousy gearbox that start to speak japanese when u reach 80kph, no mods except some high peformance yokohama tires. Actually took me alot of nerve to go that fast in that ride. Modding halfway, next step is to swap that 4k engine with something near 200 ponies
