Have you got DivX installed? Its best to get most ofd the sound and video drivers installed :)

some divxs get encoded using one of the many official/unofficial mp4 audio encoders. The biggest problem in recent years :( If Adam's divx pack doesn't solve it ( it's had a recent update ) then the other option is it may be encoded with one of the many mobile phone audio codecs :( Best to run GSpot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ on the file and it will identify the codec it was encoded with and then get the appropraite codec bundle to suit,

Can you play music and all the rest on the PC?

If you can, it might be a corrupt download that you got :( Can happen sometimes.

What i usually do is play around with the File extensions. Maybe change the .avi to .mpeg , .mpg and all the rest. It usually should work then. Also, download divX www.divx.com and try play it through that.

What OS are you on and what version of Nero do you have?

how do you convert it?

What do you mean, from .avi to .mpeg?

Simple. Take away the .avi at the end and replace it with .mpeg ...

Well thats how i do it anyway.

There are different versions handling the Nero.
What 4CC code does it display AND if you click on the code details button what extra information is it giving ?

how do you convert it?
You need decoder and encoder codecs of each type to do a conversion. So if as it sounds you're decoder codec is stuffed then so will your attempts at conversion :(

You need to get a full codec set.
What OS are you running and which patches ??

Wouldn't work for me so I updated Divx player and found this codec:
http://jaist.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/ac3filter/ac3filter_0_70b.exe
Now it'll play in any videoplayer. :D

If that link won't work, -> http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ac3filter/ac3filter_0_70b.exe?download
