A rock for Gronholm, a tree for Loeb and a kangoroo for Solberg all proved to be enough to stop them wininng the Australian Rallye. Enter Francois Duval for his first win ever....Might be helpful for his position next year, but he has yet be to offered a seat. Rovanpera did something nice for Mitsubishi, and Colin McRae must have surprised everybody keeping the Skoda on third spot until the 23rd stage, when technical problems caused his retirement.

Third was Stohl in last year's Xsara, so there is enough opportunity for Loeb to continue in this year's car as a privateer, until the C4 will be ready in 2007.

Well, this doesn't really mean Duval is such a great driver. He just had the luck that the other drivers had no luck...

A bit gutted for McRae, he was on for a great result in the Skoda. :(

Seemed like it was a real car-breaking event with only a handful of WRC cars making it to the finish. I guess the heat, rocks, dust (and wildlife!) make it the closest thing to the gruelling old Safari Rally, since its demise.

Has anyone seen the incident with Solberg and the 'Roo? I bet the incar footage is pretty, erm, spectacular! Apparently he hit it at about 195km/h. He said they were lucky the kangaroo was actually crouching when they hit it otherwise it could easily have gone through the windscreen! :o

Yeah, i have. It was on WRC on Channel 3 a few hours ago. I was sitting on the couch, and didnt expect it, crapped myself, and spilt coke all over me! :(

It was pretty seriouls looking, you could herar the radiator going crazy, adn then it just sorta "died". Unlucky.

About three or four drivers hit kangaroos, is australia over run by them?

Highly Much So. They've actually become a pest thanks to the drought, the giant herds have had to move closer to the cities where the water supplies are.

Theres a fair few of them around, there not an endangered species.

when the big roo kulls were on in / around canberra japanese news crews didnt understand that the roos were a pest, and warned people not to come over here because we were killing a national animal...

does anyone have the final listings of all entrants? if so that would be great. thanks.

yes, but a spotlight and a .22 helps. we're gradually pushing them out of certain agricultural areas.

It's actually quite challenging; When I went to a mates farm when I was living in Western Australia I was spotter. Hardest thing ever. So the Rabbits are making us work for it.......

Just put some high explosives down their holes. That'll teach 'em.

a plastic milk bottle works fine if you attach it over the muzzle, especially with subsonics. you didn't hear it from me though :D

if the spotlight is powerful enough they usually freeze or move slowly. if they do run, thats what a shotgun is for :D except that isn't really quiet:)

good luck getting subsonic rounds for anything larger than a .22 anyway... never seen them for sale. apart from pistol rounds.

I dont think it wouldve done much different had the Roo been upright, theyre so damned bottom heavy anyway its likely to have just caused more cosmetic damage. Last years Bathurst had the infamous Roo accident climbing the mountain, and that time the Roo got hit mid air basically.
