Anybody else going to this event? Should be good this year, with some major sponsorship from Ferrari and over 90 ferraris entered in the actual event!
Looks to have a lot of fantastic cars there, with 2 Ferrari F40s, a $2 million Ferrari 250 Tour De France, a couple of Porsche 356s, 2 550 Maranellos, a Lambo Countach QV5000, an Elfin MS-8 Streamliner (driven by Peter Brock) plus all the usual GT-HO Falcons, Toranas and Datsun 240Zs, etc.
It all begins withe the Prologue on Wednesday, November 16at Victoria Park Racecourse. Day 1 of competition is on Thursday November 17, winding through the Barossa Hills and valley.
Day 2 on Friday, Nov 18 winds through the Fleurieu Peninsula and finishes up back in Gouger St, where $20 million worth or rally cars will be parked on display to the public until 9:30pm.
Day 3 goes past Birdwood and ends up down Gorge Rd (right past my house :D).
The fourth and final day of competition is on Sunday, Nov 20, which goes up Montacute Rd. and finishes up at Hutt St for the grand finale finish.

It should be good, I'll be sure to take my camera and take a load of pics for you guys!

:( I knew there was a reason I was not suposed to agree to be at a family gathering this weekend.

Next year I may have to see if I can find something to participate in.

those are the things that you should not be available for as a matter of principle....

I normally go out of my way to avoid them, but due to mothers 60th BDay being celebrated (I think thats what it is) I had (foolishly, I admit) made myself available.

They sound bloody good as well!!
Well, I went to the street party on Friday night, had a look at all the cars, including the Ferrari F50, a couple of 550 Maranellos, plus plenty of other exotic stuff.
Yesterday I got to see them in action :D :D
It was great, except I got sunburnt a bit. I took over 100 photos, and I'll post some of the best ones here when I get time.

I have roughly 1500 files (pictures and movies from the digital camera), I'll see when I get round to getting those up, might post up a couple of teasers soon.

I had an absolutely awesome weekend, starting off with the street party on Friday, where I was the only one somehow to get the spot in the alleyway where all but 2 or 3 cars went through to get to Gouger street. I got all cars coming by without any annoying spectators stuffing up the picture.

Saturday we travelled up to the Basket Range Special Stage, which apparently had an area set up for spectators. I must say it's one of the worst setups, you get a small flash of cars coming around a corner (if you're lucky to find a high enough spot) and otherwise you see them for a grand total of 3 seconds as they pass past a monument. Worthless position for pictures, so we set out to scout the area for the afternoon's worth of pictures, to see if we could find a good spot.
Find a good spot we did, up on a small cliff overlooking an S-bend on the Gorge Road Special Stage. Unfortunately road closures meant that the road was off limits to anyone and everyone who wasn't participating. This led us to (half an hour early,) walk up the road before the road closure, and set up camp on the top of the cliff. This was then followed by an agonizing 1 and a half hours of waiting in the blistering sun with no shade for the event to begin. THIS was followed by another hour of waiting because for some reason all the cars were late. When they did finally come through, however, it was an awesome experience. The sound was awesome, reverberrating off the walls of the cliff, and plenty of drivers giving it their all through the corners.
After 7 and a half hours of sitting up there, the road was opened once more and we made our way back to our rental. On the way there there was a very sombre sight, a classic of some nature (I don't know which, the front was completely mangled and I was too slow with my camera) was being transported on a flatbed truck back to wherever it was going. RIP...

The following day we made our way up to Echunga, for yet another special stage. This was once more a s-bend, which the drivers powered through. It was a cool day in the morning, perfect for spectating.
After that we went back to the CBD for lunch and the grande finale, where the weather cleared up. This was held in Hutt St, and involved the cars going past a timing stage and up and over a ramp. I left at 5ish to get the flight back, but spent many a time wandering through 300 odd cars, with plenty of pictures to prove it :).

As I said, awesome weekend all up...

These are just 4 of the pictures of the weekend, randomly selected.
