I just bought a 1977 Ford Maverick, the body is immaculate. The engine needs a little TLC. The timing is way off, i was wondering if anyone could help me. I need to know how to change the timing.. Thanks

I wouldn't know where to start on that, especially since from your description we don't even know what type of engine it has - if it is only a simple timing issue that needs to be addressed, a local garage (or school shop if you happen to still be in school) will easily be able to quickly fix this for you.

it's got the straight six in it, though being Thanksgiving The auto shop isnt open for me to get a chilton manual for it. ahhh any other ideas as to why it is idling so rough, aside from the timing being way off?

For technical vehicle specific questions, you'd do much better to ask on vehicle specific forums.

As far as the rough idle, that doesn't mean it's automatically the timing. It could be a myriad of things from a gummy carburetor to a faulty sparkplug lead to vacuum leak to poor compression to...
You get the idea.

Best idea...timing is much easier if you got a timing gun.

A '77 Maverick??? I'd say your timing is off. Buying it in 1977 would've helped! :)

I've got time timing pretty much figured out, but when i give it gas it hesitates, and it'll die if i dont let off.. Im thinking it's a vacuum leak somewhere, but i cant find a Vacuum Diagram anywhere , any help/ideas?

I say open the hood and use your hand to give it gas (while in "park" of corse) and listen..best way to find a vac leak...
