Metro 6R4 Pictures

MG Metro 6R4
1984

2991cc 90 degree 24v V6 engine.
410 bhp @ 9000 rpm in 'International spec', 270ftlb torque @ 6500 rpm.
5 speed gearbox, delivering power to all 4 wheels.
0 - 60 mph: 4.3 seconds.
Number built: 205.

Developed by Williams Grand Prix Engineering to a specification by Patrick Head, the 6R4 was created to exploit the infamous Group B rules, giving over 400 bhp in 'works' trim and 250 bhp in Clubman spec. Initially using a Rover V8 engine shortened to V6, new heads and blocks were made to create an entirely new engine.

On one event the Plumbing Plus (the company my dad owns) Metro 6R4 sustained quite bad damage to the front right hand side. Before it could be fixed my dad and his work partner found someone selling a new lighter chassis. These pictures were taken during the build.

And not forgeting the finished product.
Also if any one knows John Indri who is well known for racing 6R4's he is a friend of my Dad's company and we got him to put a Plumbing Plus sticker on his car.

here are some mg 6r4 roadversion pictures!
The car was sold a few weeks ago.
It is an excellent example of metro 6r4 clubman version for road-use only.
The actual owner has post a lot of pictures on X Power forums website.
enjoy it!

Nice pics.
Why would anyone keep one of these for road use. It surprises me !

First, they are MEANT to be rallied. It's like keeping a tiger on a leash - all wrong !!

Second, the gearbox is atrocious for road use.
The gearbox sounded like a tractor and was painful to drive any distance in.

Could just imagine sitting on the M25 car park in that :)

PS: What's the url for the "X Power forum" ?

In group B then a road version had to be made, it was a rule. After being thrased around in one around some country lanes i would love one for the road.

Other way round, Suka.
They had to produce 200 for homologation.
When GroupB was cancelled all the manufacturers had them still on their hands to sell.
My brother tried a 6R4 as an 'investment' and it was his views I was passing on.

As he ran the Audi GBM rally team with it's works Quattros then when he says a gearbox was noisy and clunky he was already comparing it with a competition box !! ( He still owns the RS200 and 205T16 :) )

I thin kwhat you may be referring to was the later de-tuned engines which were used in British national events under national rules even though they weren't permitted on internationsl.

'course as someone closer to a current running 6R4, I'm willing to listen if I've got it wrong. How's the car shaking down ? When's it's first outing ??

Well you may be right but what i said was what my Dad told me. The 6R4 is up and running and had a few outings already, we have put a new engine in it which has less horses but accelerates faster (i think that is it?), on the x-power forum there is a lot of posts and pictures from the Driver and my Dad, the drivers name is Kevin King.

Edit I dont know how many pictures are here that i didnt post but i have finally found the web site the pics got put on by my Dad.
