My honest opinion is that it's "not bad." For the price you won't get any other camera with 12x optical zoom, 6mp and anti-shake.
However the color adjustment can be a pain at times. Most people feel that the "natural" setting is a bit dull, while the "vivid" setting overdoes things. It also tends to have a magenta cast, and the plastic casing is not the most durable thing out there. The AF is not the quickest out there, but it is certainly better than many others (for example, the DiMAGE X1 takes about 4 seconds to AF and it's horrendous).
With that in mind, it's still the best-cost option in its class and produces better images than many of the more compact cameras.
(I say this because I work at a camera store)

The sky is a tad overexposed... I would have used a polarizer to cut down on the reflection but I don't think the DX6340 takes one.

Lots of hostility here over simple photography, it's pretty ridiculous if you ask me. And yes, my pic's not the greatest (the overexposure is an issue) but I'm fairly limited with that camera in terms of settings (ie polarizer) so I just try to do the best I can with what I have; thanks for your comment nuclearcrap. And not to cause problems, but I do feel that pergarec's is the better of the ice pictures.

"Good" doesn't mean "Best"... I think people honestly just choose whichever photo they think looks the best. I mean, what other explanation is there? Some kind of crazy photographic conspiracy?

PininfarinaPIMP
12-06-2005, 07:06 PM
Actually sometimes i wonder if people vote based on friendships. Ive seen some really bad or unoriginal pics win comps AND runoffs...

zeppelin
12-06-2005, 07:10 PM
I think you're getting a little too worked up over this; for one I didn't even say your picture was bad. Infact I don't think anyone has actually said it's bad, just that they in their OPINION (key word here) think pergarec's is better. It's no conspiracy, just which is preferred by the majority. Get over yourself.

PerfAdv
12-06-2005, 07:20 PM
I try to not even look at names when I view the pics. However, sometimes it seems the same people get the votes. There's an easy explanation: 1) They are voting for friends or 2) they like the way a certain person shoots.

In the 'ICE' pictures, I prefer the branch with bits of ice and the setting sun in the background. The other picturing the twig in the grip of ice is less subtle and doesn't have as nice a backdrop.

In my opinion anyone is capable of taking good pics, some just do it more often. Peace, it's just an amature review not some careerist slamming your hard work. :)

Most of the good pictures I've taken (and likely the ones I will submit here in the future) are posted on the Yahoo Photos page that I have listed in my profile. If you would like a high-res image of any of them, just let me know.

I know next to nothing about photography and yet I vote almost every week. I really don't care about the technical detail, but about the overall message that they transimit. Over exposed or not.

After all this is a CAR forum. If you want to get your photos qualified for their technical detail I bet there are a zillion forums that would serve you better. Meanwhile people will have to listen to the opinions of others and respect them, even if they don't share them.

My 2 cents... keep 'em coming!

By the way, I do welcome all comments and criticisms on my photos. If you really hate the picture, say something. I think it will help me become a better photographer. On the other hand, if you really like the picture, a compliment every now and then is always good.
But seriously, I won't be offended or anything by a comment that someone makes about my picture. Just don't tell me my pictures suck without giving me a reason why they suck. I don't care if you've never touched a camera before; if you think they suck, then you're entitled to think so, and I would like to know.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I too am getting pretty sick of pinin's negative comments about everyone's photos too. If you don't like it, it's helpful if you use constructive criticism, not outright flaming.

And yea, don't go with the Kodak. I haven't been a big fan of mine. I don't really know that much about cameras, but I do know that it'd be worth the extra bit of money for the Panasonic.
