Veyron facts -

1. It currently takes 6 weeks to build each car, but soon this will be reduced to three weeks and then one week, meaning 50 a year will be made until the number 300 is produced, which they will stop at.

2. Each V16 quad turbo engine is bench tested for 8 hours and run for several minutes a tthe 6500rpm redline.

3. Cars will be sold exclusively through the UK via Nick Lancaster and the HR Owen group. The list price is £714,285 to which VAT of 17.5% (125,000) must be added, bringing total to £839,285 plus £50 registration fee and Number plates.

4. The fuel tank has a capacity of 100 litres. At the 252mph top speed, the veyron does 2.7mpg, which means it can run out of fuel after 12 mins@252 mph, having just covered 50 miles.

5. The 7 speed DSG gearbox has a full automatic mode and a full sequential manual mode, which can be operated either via the lever or paddles behind the wheel. It shifts as fast as a modern F1 car's gearbox and was designed by french firm Ricardo.

6. Before the veyron can reach its top speed of 252mph, you have to stop, apply the brakes and put a seperate key in a lock in the drivers sill. This reduces the ride height significantly and prevents the spoilers deploying (which they do above 135mph automatically in regualr and handling modes). With the spoilers out the Veyron will do no more than 235mph.

I didnt get the magazine, but they posted facts on their website. Its a truly amazing feat of engineering, (I think I raised the point about the speed differential test on the McLaren vs Veyron page...) Just loved the Veyron, just too good. It looked the business as it screamed past the camera.

Was a fun show. Mansell creamed Damon!!! As ever the duo always make a fun pair (I always forget the long haired guys name when I come to post!!)

What do you all think about the Carrera vs Carrera 4. When I was younger, used to think Carrera 4 was way better, as it was safer n all. But now, I kinda like the thought of having to control the car a bit more, having a bit more involvement in the Carrera... But would take the Turbo over either!!!!

It was a great show, but I'd also like to see the Veyron on the Top Gear track. I'm very curious how fast it will be there. And I have to see the acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds:)

Not so sure, it's the most powerfull car, but heavy so it doesn't go around corners that quickly, so it's gonna be very interesting!

Clarkson, during one of his Veyron rants said 'it handles like an elise around corners'....how much of that was Clarkson-talk and how much was real... who can say

I personally think it would go around the track faster... it probably handles pretty well too.


Have to add, those 911's looked awesome, the rear wheel arches on the Carrera 4 are just too gorgeous

Did anyone notice in the 911 test that the 4 wheel drive 911 had quad tail pipes signifying it as the S version and the rear-driver only had twin pipes signifying it as the standard model, or am I missing something?

I didnt notice that... although when they showed the badges at the back they were both non-S, as far as I can remember. Maybe it just had optional tailpipes on it? Otherwise thats quite a stupid mistake they made....

yes, the awd version had the quad pipes, but it didnt have an "S" on the back though, probably just a optional-extra-loaded up car vs one they hired

yeah that is likely the early parts of the file.
As many people share on torrents the early file chunks exist in many MANY more servers. It's the later file "chunks" that get slow delivery on. There has been widespread promotion of random file chunk distribution for original seeders, but I've not seen it widely taken up by the providers :(

My DSL is fast and I was getting 250-300kb/s constantly.:) According to the CNET bandwidth meter, my connection speed is 1544.9 kb/s. WTF? That's faster than a T1 line.

Now that it has distributed widely enough the speeds have ramped.
I've currently got 11 guys pulling and my 4Mb is going flat out !!!!
