View Full Version : PBB's WRX STi Thread
Here's fanboism at its most productive. :D
The WRX STi is my favorite remotely affordable car and I've amassed a rather large collection of pics and videos of the USDM '04 - 06 STi.
To start it off and give everyone an idea of what is being unleashed, 200+ pics of a custom gunmetal painted '04 STi. :D

I think the stock rims work better though. Great photographs.

I agree, the stock STi rims are quite good looking. This car would have looked amazing if he had painted the stock BBS rims black and polished the lip.
A teaser of more to come. ;)

that car is so hot.... subaru should take note ;)
Clutch, this car was painted gunmetal in '04 since no similar color was available. Subaru actually did add a new color, a very dark silver like that, for the '05-'06 STi's called Steel Grey Metallic (SGM).

really? sweet, i haven't seen any in that colour yet, is it for the US only?

I was mistaken about the years, it's for the '06 only and upon checking Subaru's Australian site (http://subaru.com.au/explore/Impreza/exterior.asp?body=Sedan&grade=WRX+STi), it appears to be a US only color. :(

thanks. thats a shame, i guess here it will still be a 'custom' colour:(
Black one with bug eyes is not an STi. It's regualr WRX, dressed like an STi.

Also, the blue car is a standard WRX. Since so many of the pics had one or the other car in it and combos of all three, I just batch renamed the pics all together.

I didn't pay attention at the blue one, black one cought my eyes because this year US edition did not offer STi package.
BTW, I have a blue WRX wagon myself, it's 2002.:) Love that car.

Nice! Any mods?
I've got my mind set on an '04 Java Black Pearl STi. But right now it's finances before cars.

Nice! Any mods?
No, I like stock.:) Good enough for me. Drove STi numerous times, the car is for very serious driver, I'm just a regular one:)
I have a friend who modifies his STi... I even helped him, but do not support that:)

As long as you love it, that's all that matters. :D
And I know exactly what you mean about modding the STi. There is already a massive list of things I will do to my STi. Nothing to major, just $100 here, $500 there, $1200 here, you know... :D
And the last of this series, I promised 200+ pics and there's only 197 BUT the next series is of the gunmetal car before it was painted, so it's technically more of the gunmetal car. :p

Wingless Hoodscoopless WRB/Gold '04
After he was rear-ended, the owner decided he didn't want the attention of the STi so he got a trunk and hood off of a 2.5RS Impreza. It's a straight swap since all hoods and trunks are interchangable on all the '04-05 Impreza models. Also note since there's no hoodscoop to feed a TMIC, he installed an FMIC.
Gosh, I love 2006 Impreza.:)
Styling wise, I love the headlights, they are very aggressive and the front bumper looks better. But I hate the "aircraft inspired" center grille and the tail-lights are absolutely hideous. You can see in the second and fourth pics, (http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/showpost.php?p=454641&postcount=196) one of the '06s has the '04-05 tail-lights which are a direct swap and look a lot better IMHO. :)

I love everything on 2006 Impreza -grill, headlights... , and I maybe wrong but to me there is a difference between 04 and 06 STi in terms of handling, I liked 2006 better.

Looks are personal taste, of course. :)
I haven't had a chance to drive an '06 yet but the '06 is only a minor change from the '05 with the steering wheel position sensor. The big changes were with the '05 models versus the '04.
Basically, the '04 and '05 are nearly indentical in looks while the '05 and '06 are nearly identical mechanically.

Cusco is a brand name of Carrosser, a company created in 1977 by Yuji Kase as a performance shop for rally racing. The name Cusco was derived from the Incaic Empire of Peru, South America, as it was one of the originating cultures known to mankind. Carroser wanted the Cusco brand to be the origin of car tuning and performance in regards to the compact performance market. Basically, the overall goal was to be the originator, not an imitator. However, the philosophy behind the GT300 class is different.
More than just a test vehicle for Cusco's STi products, the race team will pull out all the stops in order to achieve its primary goal: winning. Starting out as an all-wheel-drive platform, the Cusco GT300 Impreza was converted into two-wheel drive with the rear wheels in charge of delivering power. The DOHC EJ20 engine sees light upgrades with a single, ball-bearing IHI turbo and reprogramming of an STi ECU. Cusco employed its own aluminum radiator, oil cooler kit, and a Calsonic intercooler to help lower engine temperatures. For durability on the track, the six-speed, sequential Cusco transmission has been fitted with a triple-plate Tilton carbon clutch and a 1.5-way RS Type limited-slip differential. So far this setup is good for 300ps, which should be quite enough for circuit racing.
Alcon watercooled calipers provide rock solid reliability for long periods of use. We suspect the additional line(s) push water through the caliper.
Because suspension is one of Cusco's fortes, its techs used a combination of the company's own springs matched to a set of Showa dampers for supreme handling on the track. Further stiffening comes in the form of Cusco's upper pillow mounts and a Safety21 rollcage in the driver's cabin. The braking system is serious business as well; a massive set of Alcon six-pot calipers, Earl's stainless brake lines, and PFC brake pads are bolted to each corner, delivering stopping power on demand. Filling up the wheelwells of the widebodied chassis (which, by the way, use Cusco's original aero pieces) are a huge set of lightweight, magnesium 18x11 Racing Hart CP-035 wheels, which use a set of ueber-grippy Advan 280/710R18 tires. A Bride Zeta II Neos bucket seat and a Takata 340R harness were also installed for driver comfort and to impress the crap out of you.
