Man. That would be one pimp ass surf car. Lower it, paint it yellow, put some 17 inch OZ Racing rims on it, and put some surfboard on top with a small quiksilver white logo in the rear window, and you have yourself a surfer car.

For anyone interested, a classic car magazine (probably Classic Car Monthly :p) is running an article on the Vauxhall Chevette HS versus the Lotus Talbot Sunbeam!
I think I may get it...
EDIT: It could be UK only. Maybe.

It was '77 !!! I got my years mixed. 77 was a full season assault in the UK. I was thinking only the DTV assault on WRC in 1980 would have been ireland/wales. "brainfart" :)

Pentti Airikkala is probably one of the least known drivers to ever win a WRC event. Most of his career was spent in Great-Britain where he was a regular competitor in the national Rally Championship. His knowledge of the British roads enabled him to score an upset victory at the 1989 RAC Rally at the wheel of a factory Mitsubishi Galant VR4. Prior to that, he had been a factory driver for such diverse makes as Isuzu, Renault, Opel, Ford or Lancia. He his well remembered in Britain for his great performances at the wheel of the Vauxhall Dealer Team Chevettes at the end of the 1970s. Since retiring from the sport, Pentti runs a rallying racing school in England, appropriately named “Left Foot Braking”! 1965 - First rally on a Volvo PV544.
1973 - 3rd Arctic (Renault 12 Gordini). DNF 1000 Lakes (Opel Kadett Sedan).
1974 - 16th 1000 Lakes (Vauxhall Viva).
1975 - 5th Arctic, 6th Hanki, 20th RAC (Vauxhall Magnum Coupé). Won Jim Clark Memorial Rally.
1976 - World Rally Championship (Ford Escort RS1800) : 2nd 1000 Lakes. RAC British Rally Championship (Ford Escort RS1600) : 2nd Welsh, 4th Scottish.
1977 - 2nd RAC British Rally Championship (Vauxhall Dealer Team Vauxhall Chevette 2300HS) : 2 wins (Welsh and Manx), 16th RAC.
1978 - World Rally Championship (Vauxhall Dealer Team Vauxhall Chevette 2300HS) : 3rd 1000 Lakes.
1979 - RAC British Open Rally Champion : 3 wins (Ulster, Scottish and Circuit of Ireland). World Rally Championship : 3rd Sweden, 7th RAC (Dealer Team Vauxhall Chevette 2300HS).
1980 - World Rally Championship (Vauxhall Dealer Team Vauxhall Chevette 2300HS) : 6th Sweden. Won televised Texaco Rallysprint. Hoped to do a complete European Championship season, but lack of money prevented him from doing so.
