1965 Chaparral 2 Prototype - Original Fenders

http://www.legacydiecast.com/show_image.asp?imageName=ex18140

This model has been retired by Exoto.

Exoto's Description: The Chaparral 2 Works Prototype I represents the final clean fender evolution of the remarkable Chaparral 2 racer. To many, this is the most aesthetically pleasing of the Chaparral cars. Lacking all the louvers and ducts of later iterations, the lovely clean lines of this pure racer come shining through. Wearing the silky white paint that became a trademark of "The White Cars from Texas", there are few cars that can match its purposeful beauty.

1965 Chaparral 2 Works Prototype III w/ Shark Fin Fenders

From Exoto's Description:

Jim Hall's Chaparral racers are amongst the most innovative cars in the history of motorsport. The Chaparral 2 was the culmination of extensive research and experimentation. It is impossible to summarize the technical achievements that Jim Hall, Hap Sharp, and team carried out. The results of their efforts with the Chaparral 2 speak for themselves: 23 victories, 16 pole positions and 25 fastest laps in only 69 races.

The removable body panels set a new industry standard for fit and finish: beautiful, crisp vents in the shark fin fenders, separate metal rear spoiler, hinges that are flush with the bodywork, genuine wire mesh, countless photo-etch parts and a glorious paint finish. Beneath the skin is miles of real metal wire, machined aluminum, fabric seat belts with photo-etch hardware, functioning steering and suspension, flexible brake cooling ducts, brake discs that turn within the calipers, opening fuel filler caps, and more...

what do you mean: Retired by Exoto? Is it no longer available?

I would prefer this, so I could put some work into a model

yeah, retired as in no longer produced I believe.
I'd also prefer the kit-model. Are they available from anywhere?
(I was 90% sure it'd be you to post first in this thread :))

well, I am not a fan of diecast models. It removes the initiative to do anything creative. I think I have seen models of the 2F also.
