The New Škoda Roomster Will Make Its Debut in Geneva

Škoda Auto presents the first official picture of the new Škoda Roomster that is going to become the fourth model family. Not only does the Škoda Roomster represent the Škoda brand’s step towards a new market segment, but also a step towards a new development stage.

The Roomster made its first appearance as a design study at the International Motor Show (IAA – Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung) in Frankfurt in 2003. In the light of positive response of the specialist automotive media and many potential customers’ demand, a decision was taken to develop the relevant production car. After less than two and a half years, Škoda is now introducing its new Škoda Roomster to the public in Geneva.

The Roomster car concept is unique with its variable interior and a young, fresh design. As usual, the Škoda Roomster impresses with an excellent value for money, a vast luggage compartment, a lot of storage space, and a flexible Varioflex rear seat facility.

The side lines reflect dynamics while large glass panes underline ample interior spaciousness. The customers can choose their ideal option out of three petrol engines and three diesel engines combined with a manual or automatic gearbox.

The Škoda Roomster will be manufactured in the Kvasiny plant. At first, the car will be put on the most important European markets including the Czech Republic in the summer of 2006.

The new Škoda Roomster will make its first public appearance at the International Motor Show in Geneva on 28th February 2006.

More information to be posted as it is released by Škoda. I really had no idea that they intended on releasing this car after the presented the concept in 2003. Looks nice.

I'm not sure about the name, but I really like the interior. Looks very bright and roomy, like NBA-player-roomy. I wonder if Volkswagen could slap a VW badge on it (they'd have to; almost nobody over here knows what a Skoda is) and ship it over here; it could probably give the PT Cruiser a run for its money.

NEW ŠKODA ROOMSTER SCOUT

Škoda Auto is introducing the Roomster Scout, a brand new version of its compact MPV. After the premiere of the Octavia Scout at the Paris Motor Show, the Roomster Scout is a second vehicle of the Scout family, a design line that adds distinct off-road elements to passenger vehicles.

Compared with the basic version, the Roomster Scout is mainly different in terms of new design elements and larger outer dimensions (4,219 mm x 1,695 mm x 1,650 mm). . Just like the basic version, the Roomster Scout is a front-wheel drive vehicle.

The Roomster Scout comes with 16" alloy wheels in the standard package, 17" wheels are available as an optional equipment item. Developed exclusively for this particular model, the design of the Scout wheel is very distinct. In general, the Scout packet gives the Roomster a modern, leisure-time image. The side covers and the silver part of the rear bumper are items that have already become characteristic of the Scout line.

The SunSet system in the tailgate, rear side windows and the rear windows (dark tinted glass in the standard package) makes the vehicle's exterior even more attractive. The dashboard comes in the Onyx/Onyx and Onyx/Silver versions, the seat upholstery material is identical with that in the Octavia Scout.

Two four-cylinder petrol engines are available – 1.4 16V/63 kW and 1.6 16V/77 kW. Customers preferring TDI engines can choose between the three-cylinder 1.4 TDI PD/59 kW and the four-cylinder 1.9 TDI PD/77 kW. All of the engines come with five-speed manual transmissions, the 1.6 16V/77 kW version is also available with the Tiptronic six-speed automatic transmission system.

The Roomster Scout is going to have a world premiere at the Essen and Bologna motor shows in early December. The market launch is planned for March 2007.

about the roomster - i was test-driving it with my collegue for 5 days (2247 kms in total) and i spend many hours in that car; i have to admit for that price it's a really nice car for that price and for skoda; maybe the suspension is a bit too jelly
