I was wondering if the challenge stradale was street legal, my cousin believes that they are while i still hold the opinion they aren't so I've come to the experts to see how it fairs off..I want to see a vote as well to see what you guys think/know and vote before u read andy replies as to the answer of the question... ALSO here are some pics of the F430 challenge stradale that i took at the autoshow, i've posted them up before but didn't want the thread to feel empty

Stradale means Street, does that answer the question?

Your pics are of the Challenge, there is no Challenge Stadale version of the 430.

It is difficult if you only look at the name "Challenge", but, as written above, the second word "Stradale" means street.

There are three versions of the F360:

F360 Modena = normal road car
F360 Challenge = race car for club races and the Ferrari Challenge races
F360 Challenge Stradale = road version of the race version, more power, slightly modified aerodynamic

There will be something similar with the F430 sooner or later. Up to now there are only the F430 roadcar and the car you photographed, the F430 Challenge, which is for same use as the F360 Challenge was.

Yes the Challenge Stradale was legal, but there is no such thing as the F430 Challenge car. Only the F430 GT.

'Stradales' that aren't 'STREET LEGGAAAALLL' - a bit of a contadiction in terms.

According to Ferrari, there won't be a 430 Stradale but knowing them that means naff all.

Uh no. There is a F430 GT and a F430 Challenge. The car in the picture is a Challenge model. The GT is what ran at Sebring.

An F430 CS will no doubtfully be made, but most like near the F430's final years to keep the F430 alive little longer.
This was done with the 360.

To get this over with you can compare the Challenge Stradale version to the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. They are both street legal,IF licensed and all (i know a owner off the gt3rs that didnt do that :)). Some countries have different road legislation and there it might NOT be legal. In the European Union it is. Both the 360 cs and the 911 gt3rs are homologation models. Which means they are racing cars for the street. The homologation rules are that xxx cars must be built of the street version, before the racing car will be allowed.

this is wrong

Sorry, Ferrari's press officer must have got it wrong then.

Ferrari wanted to make GT racing more easily accesible for their customers, so they are only building an F430GT which will also be used for the F430 Challenge Series. That's if they even do one - I've heard SF was getting a bit tired of the Ferrari Challenge's 'stock car racing for millionairres' nick name.

So, the 360 had: F360, 360 Spider, 360 Challenge, 360 Challenge Stradale and the 360 GTC

The F430 will have: F430, 430 Spider, F430GT and possibly a CS version.

There is the F430 Challenge:

And there is the F430 GTC:

The Challenge is pretty much stock, whereas the GTC is extensively modified. The Challenge will be used in Ferrari's one make series and possibly the GT3 championship; the GTC is a full blood GT2 racer for Le Mans, LMS, ALMS and FIA GT.

The Challenge was a show car. Again, I'm just going with what Ferrari's press officer told me!

Have you clicked the link I provided?

MrKipling

Yes I did, the 430 at the show was a 'Show Car', released before the specs had been finalised - hence Ferrari were being very cagey about exactly what it was and where it would fit into their line-up.

The car that will appear on race tracks will be the 430 GT. Although there will probably be a GT2 and a GT3 version, they will both come from the same basic car and the differences will be minimal, whereas the 360C and GTC were fundamentally different motors.

The visual and technical differences are numerous. You were misinformed.

Misinformed by Ferrari. Ok then.

Misinformed by Ferrari. Ok then.

I was at the launch in Frankfurt and the press release was pretty definitive.

Hmmm, that is strange then. I was talking to the press department about a week ago, and I was told that they would not be manufacturing a Challenge version.

Still it's all probably just Ferrari smokescreening to cover their development of the 599 GTB GT or something! :D

It's a good job I'm not publishing the feature anymore! Ferrari would have looked a little silly!

It could be that Ferrari has changed its plans in the time since the launch that Wouter attended, though I think it'd be an odd move for Ferrari to not make a 430 CS, the 360 CS would've sold well I imagine

As I said a bit earlier, I had been told Ferrari were sick of the 'Stock Car Racing for Millionairres' nickname the Ferrari Challenge had picked up and that's why they introduced Club Fiorano (or whatever it's called) - as a substitute.

However, photos of what certainly appear to be 430 Challenge Cars blows all that out of the water really, doesn't it?!

Unless of course those are Club Fiorano cars - they do use track prepared 430s.
