I have owned 3 Previous Galants, but this last one is the best.

For those who do not know about VR4s check out www.clubvr4.co.uk. This site is for Galant and Legnum enthusiasts.

My car is as follows;
2.5 litre V6 Twin-Turbo (with HKS induction) - est 300hp
Four-Wheel Drive, Active Yaw Control and Traction Control (From Lancer EVO V)
5 Speed INVECS-II Tiptronic Transmission (based on Porsche design)
17" Zauber Alloys and Toyo 225/45 R17 tyres

0-60mph @ 5.9sec and 150 mph Top Speed

While other cars may be faster in the 1/4 mile or top speed, it's road holding around corners is almost as good as the Nissan GTR "Godzilla", but it looks like an everyday car.

Nice car, lets put it to the Egg Nog test! Write your online name on a piece of paper and take a picture of it on the car. For example: you could stab the piece of paper over the shifter of tape it to the hood or something like that.

Egg Nog Test = Truth Test .... hmmmm .... interesting test.

I will probably need to polish it again beforehand :D

Yes well, it's a long story. It has something to do with a guy called moterer1, a skyline, some swizzbeatz :p, and an xkr, a z3, an slk, a porsche, and most importantly, a guy called Egg Nog. There is some other stuff involved but you will learn about that soon enough.

Nice car, looks like you take good care of it.

Post your proof of ownership to get some rep points ;)

I've always loved VR-4's. Your car looks great, planning to do some extra engine modifications in the future? Keep us informed!

BTW I'm a Kiwi too! I live in Palmerston North, how about you?

I would like to get it to about 400hp. I think that is the sweetpoint, between drivability and performance. Some of my Club members have done that. In the meantime, as this car has 2x the power of my last car ( a Galant GTi-16v), I'll take my time, because 300hp is ample now.

My first tasks are uprated brakes (Brembos) and better tyres (not sure which). Safety before performance is my motto.

with the tiptronic transmission, is the shift patter forwards for up a gear or forwards for down a gear? the magna here has the INVECS 2 tiptronic optional and it has the shift patter as forwards is shift up and i think its rather illogical

If you manage to get a picture, I'll definately save it :) I'm collecting them, to post later...

The test is designed to be ultimate, because even if a car belongs to your neighbour or something, chances are slim that you'll be able to impale a peice of paper on their shifter ;)

Will definitely get around to doing it. I place www.ultimatecarpage.com on the top and KIWITT on the bottom with the Shifter in the middle.

You may want to checkout This thread (http://www.clubvr4.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2525)for additional validation in the interim.

correct me if i am wrong, but i always thought that a Vr-4 Galant had a Twin Turbo 4 cylinder engine, not a 2.5 V6.

kiwitt

Here are the Mitsubishi Galant Models - (Not to be confused with the 3000 GT VR-4 which was a 3.0 V6 coupe)

1988-1991 VR-4 was a 2.0 4 cylinder - Single Turbo - 200 hp ?
1992-1995 VR-4 was a 2.0 V6 - Twin Turbo 240 hp
1996-2002 VR-4 was a 2.5 V6 - Twin Turbo 280 hp

With my minor modifications, I have an estimated 300hp.

awesome car! here in the US we never got the twin turbo version, all we got were the 1988-1991 vr4's with the 2.0 single turbo. i would love to cruise around in a newer vr4. nice ride :D

One guy who registered on our site from AUS, just sold his, which he imported direct from Japan.

I like VR-4's probably better than EVO's because VR-4's are understated sleepers but Evo's are totally in your face, loud and proud.

Nothing like Sleeper Style.

Thought I'd let you guys know I still have my VR-4, albeit, with better alloys and a new 3" stainless performance exhaust.

looking good kiwitt. any new engine mods besides the exhaust?

kiwitt
04-26-2010, 05:01 PM
Have seriously considered mods to the engine. Collegues in my club have spent $1,000's (one at nearly $20,000) for incremental gains of 20-30% more power, whereas I am happy with the performance of mine.

I intend to get 10+ years out of it if not more, and modding the engine power may place additional long-tern strains on other components, that may also need expenditure, so I think best leave well-enough alone, if longevity is my goal.

As to replacement in a few years time
Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe (http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/2817/Mazda-MX-5-Roadster-Coupe.html)
Mazda RX-8 (http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/3560/Mazda-RX-8.html)
Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart (http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/3569/Mitsubishi-Lancer-Ralliart.html) (Maybe ?, it's bonnet is too high for me)

I always prefer cars with a slow slung bonnet. Most car these days have high bonnets in order to protect pedestrians if you hit them, when I prefer not to hit them at all.

ah ok. going to concentrate on suspension and chassis to make the most of the power?

Matra et Alpine

If you're going for an RX-8 in future then see if you can pick up a ProDrive version (RHD only) or if not that then the last generation model which included SOME of the ProDrive mods and setup. ( The R3 also benefits from an extra oil injector so even if not maintained well it wears better )

I can't for the life of me think of worthy replacement. Especially with Petrol prices rising ... another performance car would just not make any sense.

Just popping in to say ... after 13 years this year ... I still own the car and next year it will be 20 years old.

Getting a few little things going wrong now and then, but still a good driver's car.

There's something I like a lot about an owner being passionate about a car and owning it for a long time.
