Beautiful car. Possibly one of the best looking Alfa Romeos ever, in all of its variants.

Even the largest lead in Le Mans history (a commanding 11 laps over the second placed car) could not help Alfa Romeo's beautiful 8C 2900B Le Mans Spceiale.

Early morning hours of the 18th of June of 1938 and the striken Alfa is passed by the Talbot-Lago T150C SS of Jean Prenant and Andr้ Morel, who would eventually finish 3rd.

There's nothing to be done, Raymond Sommer and Clemente Biondetti have to retire. But not before setting the fastest lap at a 155km/h average doing the same amount of laps the third placed Talbot would do at the end of the race.

Picture #3, please tell me exact model year as 'somewhere between 1937 and 1939' just doesn't do it for me for such beautiful coachbuilt cars.

#3 is 412022, a Touring Spider from 1938. Here shown by owner Chip Connor during the 2010 Pebble Beach Concourd d'Elegance.
It is debatable whether the Firmin picture shows a black car, but in reality it is grey.

1941 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Spider Sperimentale (#412043)

This one is a little bit special actually.

Made in 1941 from leftover parts and spares it is an experimental streamlined car built by Giochaccino Colombo. He also designed the body, one of the few he styled. It had a 180bhp engine, probably from a 2900B road car.

This Alfa was raced by Carlos Perez de Villa from 1949 to 1951 in Argentina, where it ended up after the war.
