Theres one question ive been meaning to have answered and its annoyed me for ages......

When driving the convertibles within the game will it be possible to raise the roof if it starts raining? as i have seen in earlier interviews there are said to be weather effects and noone wud want the inside of their £150,000 Gallardo Roadster getting soaked do they? lol

Sylvain : Although the weather conditions do change as time goes by (from blue sky to dark clouds, from dawn sunrise till dusk sunset not to forget high noon blinding light), it never rains. This is Hawai as we dreamed it – and this means you don’t need to raise the roof, so it’s always open. If you want a roof, you’ll probably want to try a roadster instead…

how will the selling work do you set the price or is it like forza and the price is already set?

There are 2 different ways to sell a car or a bike in the game.

- sell it to the game for about half the price of the car – not a good bargain, but fast money

- sell it to another player, in the Trade area. You set the price and post the order, like in a stock exchange. Other players can see the vehicles for sell, and buy one if they want. As price change over time with offer and demnd, it’s actually like a stock exchange. You’ll even be able to monitor the prices of your stock in the community area of www.testdriveunlimited.com

and i heard that there were certain cars that were in limited quanity...once people bought them there was no more and the only way to get it was to find someone with it and buy it? is it true

The classic cars have a rarity parameter. This means they are not always "buyable" in the car dealer. Sometimes, you'll have to wait for them to be available. You can buy the same car without any limit.
There are also some reward cars (concept cars). Those cars need to be unlocked. Once this is done, you can go to the car dealer and take it... for free. But, if you sell a reward car, the only way to have it again is to find one on sale on the Trade area. And of course who knows what online additions will be?


will there be any offroad vehicals such as dirt bikes?

You can indeed explore the whole island. As we focused to deliver the ultimate supercar experience, you’ll usually find it more efficient to try and stick to the road… but sometimes the fastest way will be to go through the dirt. And here again, who knows what online add-ons may bring in the future ?

i heard that you see the 8 closest same skill people...will you be able to see your friends/clan the whole time?

At any one time, while driving in free ride, you see the 7 other players that do make most sense for you, as set in your preferences: friends first, same skill, same vehicle category… Go to the island map, and you’ll see where the 1000 of players are on the island (density map), as well as selectable icons for all your friends – Select one of those and you’ll teleport next to him. Remember you can talk directly at all times with people you’re driving along, and that you can “lock” them, so that you always stay together in your freeride experience



what is the average payout for races or challenges and how easy is it to get money...can you use the money from the single player, online?

There is no online money and offline money. Everything you can earn is available online and offline. There are different way to earn money :

- by playing the multiple game modes of the solo game progression

- by playing instant challenges against online players (you set your stake)

- You can also go to a Drive-in and compete in the Custom challenges that other players have uploaded. You pay a fee to enter the challenge. Each challenge is open for a few days duration. At the end, the best competitor takes the whole fees (minus a percentage which goes to the challenge's creator).

are the cars actual prices or just random figures?

they are actual prices. As well as their buying options (rims and colors)

can you damage you car/bike and if so do you have to pay to fix it?

Beware of traffic cars, and other “light” stuff you may damage, because you’ll have to pay for it when the police does its job. Your car (and other players cars) are not damageable – it just did not work with the game concept. Who wants his brand new Lamborghini limited edition to be spoiled by anyone on the street. We did not want that, for sure.

do you buy your garges seperate or is your garge with your house?

You can't buy a garage only. You buy a luxury house WITH a luxury garage. Lots of them. For your lots of cars and lots of bikes. Lots of riches

are house and garges real priced?

Yes they are. The cheaper house costs about 150,000 $. The most expensive goes until 3,000,000 $.

I think you'll be able to move cars around your garage, but when you get close to home and pull into the marker, it cuts to a cutscene of the car pulling in or leaving.

I was getting worried that you may think that i was taking over. But i've been told by one of the Devs (developers) that there isn't much traffic sadly:( But i'm not sure what he ment by much as he sent me some gameplay footage and it had abit of traffic, but not enough to cause a jam. I'm also not too happy about the server as it only hold 16 people at any givin time in one place, but it holds 1000 on the whole island so theres your traffic:D

i think game developers are starting to recognise the UK as a separate market than europe - i can't remember where i read it - but hopefully you guys will start getting games sooner, with europe still experiencing delayed launches :)

I watched the trailers and all and they were just ridiculous. BUT I have to say it was surprisingly entertaining to cruise around in that Lambo in traffic. I just may want to play this game some more. :)

Do we really need all those cars for the game? :eek: In the demo pretty much the only difference i noticed between the Gallardo, Lotus 240R and the Shelby was the looks of the car and the speed. :rolleyes: Better acceleration and top speed = more fun. As much as I like to cruise around in old classics, this game doesn't give them justice.

I guess your right, but the thing is that the game has a speical "Photo Mode" it pauses the game at any given time and allows you to take a photo (surpise eh?) but you can adjust certain settings, i'm pretty sure i've seen a screen i'll try dig it up if your intersted, also could my contact please remain Anon, as i don't want him/her losing their job (if that's what will happen if he/her is caught)..

I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the over 200,000 people who downloaded the Test Drive® Unlimited demo through Xbox Live® Marketplace and to the thousands who gave extremely valuable feedback via www.testdriveunlimited.com.

This demo has helped us accomplish two major things:

We wanted to test our servers for the world’s first M.O.O.R. (Massively Open Online Racing) title. In day one we had over 10,000 people on our server racing against one another.

We also wanted to gather your feedback on what you liked and what you thought should be improved. The game is still a work in progress and we have time to improve the product significantly. So we've asked for your opinion and we received extremely helpful responses. We don’t agree with everything that’s been posted but most posts make sense and nearly all issues will be addressed.

A few general points on the feedback:

General bugs: This is a work in progress. 
Map: Some people were wondering why you couldn't un-zoom in the map of the demo. This is because the whole island isn’t in the demo, so we locked the zoom/unzoom feature.
Physics: Some people think they are too arcade, others are saying they are too sim-like and others are saying we are perfect…impossible to please everyone. However, there is a driving aid menu. People that want sim should play with driving aids off while others should use them. Additionally, further tweaking of the physics is ongoing.
Damage: Some car manufacturers don't want their cars being damaged so we can’t have some with and some without. More importantly, this is a unique, massively open game… we don’t want the problem of the 10 year old guy smashing into your brand new Ferrari etc.
Blur: We added a setup menu in the option menu to turn it on or off or tune the amount of blur. Same with the camera shaking effect.
Island graphics: They are evolving all the time. Until the final build, they'll keep being improved.
Controller layout: A few other controller layouts will be available in the final game.

Again, we thank you for your support and are very excited to launch Test Drive Unlimited as a unique and special product.

You need money for cars.
They're all pretty much unlocked from the start, but you have to find their dealers on your own to start buying them. Some like concepts, have to be unlocked later on. Bikes require something a little different. They're locked as well, and have to be bought with these "tokens" which seems to be just another form of currency.
The only NFS thing here is like NFS1 with supercars and middle class cars, and the free roam. There are no vinyls, boykits, spoilers. There are upgrades. They come in 3 PKGs, and upgrade the car's performance. The paintshop just changes the car's color. There will be "pinks" on online in the form of making your car the reward for a race.

There is 1 racing circuit, but you'll have to unlock it later on.
It is raced on the street though through traffic.
From what I've seen, it varies. Some of the courses have barricades to keep you from leaving, some don't. There also seems be very little traffic in the barricaded circuits.

PC demo is not known. They pushed it back to November apparently, to keep working on it. The X360 was the primary release console, and is now only going through small tests for bugs.

I hope they don't make it too hard to generate cash, I get fed up of games like GT4 where you have to spend countless hours pootling around races in a Shiatsu Mighty-Small Rumpus XS T-Type-Tasty before you can get at the good cars.

Hopefully, the fact that Atari are involved with GTL/GTR is representative of the fact that they have an interest in good simulation - not that I am expecting it to be that realistic, just so long as it isn't "Test Drivel Unlimited".

From the devs. it shouldn't be hard to develop enough cash to buy new cars. You will eventually have to buy a new home to store more cars, so I see that there's quite some realism to the game.

EDIT: btw, i downloaded the demo today and played it for about 1 hr....it's definetely the most realistic and exciting racing game iv'e ever seen

the graphics are great even though they aren't 100% (its the demo after all)

the engine and car sounds are incredible (note: you can roll the window up and down to hear inside and outside car/engine noises = amazing)

Atari also announced plans to release TDU for just $39.95 in the US - the same price as Rockstar Games' budget-style Table Tennis.

Whether that means we can expect the game to cost less here is another matter though, apparently - an Atari rep, having pointed out that the US and Europe are "different markets", told us to expect an announcement soon.

Still, with Atari boss Bruno Bonnell claiming, "Innovation should be available to everyone, not a privilege for those can afford high price tags," we'll be expecting a low-low price.

We may still get the lower price...

Well I say 49.99, but if you pre-order the game etc then you can get it for 39.99. But still if you don't then that is how much it is.

It will only stay at that price for a few weeks until they realise how dumb they are in thinking people will pay that price and they will bring the price down.

They have already been launched. So far we've got the saloon, the estate and the convertible.
