I heard the craziest story from a guy at work. He says he has a v12 Viper that puts out 2400bhp. Has anyone else ever heard such nonsense?? What IS the max hp you can get out of a car these days?

Its called bs, especially if you work at a retail store and its the pimply faced cashier claiming this.

I know it's bs but it sure is funny. He was also in the Special Forces in Vietnam yadayadayada. I was just doing some research into how much hp CAN be gotten from a Viper. I know a guy in Houston pumps them up to 600 or more.

The current power record is from SVS, estimated at around 1700hp currently, with more to be had after a bit more tuning. It uses a standard V10 Viper block. There is no such thing as a V12 Viper.

Are you sure this guy doesn't have a lisp and was actually saying that his girlfriend is such a viper that she'd put out for 24 dollars at the convention?

I went to SVS' website and the most powerful one I found had ~1400whp and 4700(!)lb/ft torque. It sheared the gears off of a gear set when they dialed in 17PSI boost, good lord.

For any car to have that much power it would probably need to have an engine made of parts from granite in order to withstand the immense force, and wheels with spikes that will bite down into the road upon accleration without first burning to nothingness.

My Viper uses 4x Scramjet engines and does 1/4 mile in 0.001 second @ Mach 40. :D

Power output is undetectable as of now, but I drove to Uranus with it once. :D

I'm sure there are more powerful Vipers out there. This Supra has 1400rwhp on an I6.

That reminds me of something...

I have just purchased a Mazda RX-8 GT and first thing I did was took it to an old airport runway and took it for a test drive. Rotary engine proved itself to be very responsive (I took it to the 9000rpm mark a lot), smooth short throw gearbox, and a 50:50 weight distribution which makes the car have cornering even with stability control on! Also, a very pretty interior which is surprisingly large and comfy, switchable dashboard colors are a nice treat too! I like this car, the ultimate bang for the buck!

o yeah im 18...wish you could drive and get an RX-8 as your first car? poor guys.

You can't get horsepower "out of a car", you get it from the engine.

The ammount of power you can get from an engine depends on how much you want to use it.

Top Fuel dragster engines produce 5000bhp, but then they need a rebuild after literally seconds of running, and regularly destroy the transmission and other ancilliary items on the car.

Sure a 1500-2000hp Viper sounds flash, but how many miles can you get before it needs some hugely expensive maintainance?

Your bills for tyres and transmissions will be quite high aswell...

exactly, if it has a v12, it ISNT a viper. and unless u have like 12 turbos, and 2,000 octane fuel (which doesnt even exist), ur not gunna get 2400 ponies. sorry, it just aint happening

Just as a point of reference guys, i know i may be from the most extreme point of the middle of nowhere and i expect to get a slating for even saying this but V12 vipers do exist. The reason i know this is im currently rebuilding the V12 engine my viper gives home to at this moment in time.

duh, im surprised none of you have thought latterally!

2400 HP* Human Power.

its widely known that Horse power = the ability to lift a set weight at a set distance.

HP and HP* can be mixed up because of their names.

one HP (the four legged kind) is the rough average of one horse to pull 500 KG's of an item vertically from a set distance away.

obviously a HP (two legged) isnt as powerful, so the fact this man may have a 2400 HP viper is entirely possible

2400 Horse power would equate to 12000 kilograms of weight being lifted by 2400 horses, so, that is entirely too easy. HOWEVER 2400 Human Power is equal to 2400 humans pulling the same weight

thus it is my conclusion, that the 2400 HP viper exists, its just your idea on what a HP actually is that matters :)

A V-8 powered Viper was campaigned at this year's Nurburgring 24-hour race. The team used a V-8 to comply with displacement regulations.
