I know of only one guy in Norway who last year bought a Maybach 57S. They don't seem to be selling very well.

Pity really...damn fine car.

Ugh, how can they not be selling well if all 57S models were bought before they were built?

The S model is a limited run.

Well, seeing as Mercedes were hoping to sell 1000 Maybachs per annum and seem unlikely to sell much more than 300 in 2006...I think it's safe to say that sales have been disappointing.

Who knows how many Maybachs are here in California? :D

My local car dealers are filled with exotics, bunch of AMGs, some RR Phantoms, some Ferraris, a SLR, bunch of Porsches, blah blah blah............

The only thing I can't believe is that I saw the same Maybach 62 on separate days, same color combo, same ol' driver. :D

I know of at least 3 Maybachs in Poland.
One has recently been bought by a member of parliament. About a week after that he got expelled from his party for "showing off and improper behaviour".
Another belongs to an owner of soft drinks factory. Though I'm not sure if he still owns it. Last year he had serious financial problems, so maybe he sold the car.
I don't know who owns the third car.
There are also rumours of another Maybach, but noone confirmed seeing it actually. The owner is supposed to be a certain priest - director of a radio station and religious leader of all the catholic extremists in Poland.

In 1999 my then girlfriend and I were playing charades with some friends, and I had to mime the song "Horny." At the end, my team won, and my girlfriend conceded "OK Horny Alex, you won," hence "hornyalex1."

Of course people realise it's just a tarted up C-class and instead bought a C200 diesel, which if you come to think of it, it makes a lot more sense...

If by tarted up you mean given an entirely different engine, a chassis longer wider and stronger than the C-class, more luxury, higher quality materials and absolutly packed with technology. All of this and you can have your interior customised and custom coloured how you want.

Makes the C-class look like a 2CV in comparison.

That's between the 62 and 57 Maybach models though.
All the 57S models were bought before 3/4 of them were built.

In charisma it scores no better than the C-class in my opinion...;)

On the outside the C-class looks much nicer. Not so over the top. On the inside though. I would love if my lounge room was fitted with as much luxury as that car. So I don't see how you can compare a Maybach (nearly $1,000,000) and a C-class (beteen $54,000 - $160,000).

Does anyone actually own one in Australia though? I have no idea.

I've heard of a sighting in Canada, however I'm not sure of the actual numbers. My friend's dad who owns a chain of businesses across north america and canada wants to get a 62 in a couple of years. His reason for waiting is because he just bought an S500 4-matic and a Cayenne not too long ago.

Apparently, if you want to buy a new Maybach 62 in Australia, you have to pay more than 1 million dollars (Australian dollars). $1.2 Australian dollars is the Recommended Retail Price.

I bet theres at least a couple hundred in the United States total. But I would bet there is probably 2 or 3 in the state of Indiana (Yeah it might be mid-America no where but they have an NFL and an NBA team and those athletes love their bling cars.)

As for Wisconsin my other place of residency, they have an NBA, an MLB and an NFL team so I bet there is probably another 2 or so up there.

Or did you just get the Damelian sales speil (Car was ordered by Rik and like all his he will sell if there is a buyer afaik)?

There's one just around the corner here (a "short"). Belongs to some arrogant Dutch guy (my dad knows him from school). The royal family has a few Maybachs. And there are probably some companies who do wedding cars etc. who own one or two.

* This advice is not free, if you intend to take it there will be a charge starting at 134 € / day for a minimum period of 24 months or in this case long as you drive around in a car of my advised color. This charge may increase if my need of cash is more dire, if I just get greedy or if I see something I really really like to buy but I don't feel like saving. I also take no responsibility what so ever whether you are satisfied with the choice of color or not or anything else related to the car or my advice in general. I furthermore reserve the right to change anything or everything in this agreement whenever I feel like it. Obviously I cannot be sued. All rights reserved. Pando.

http://www.drive.com.au/used_cars/maybach/62/brisbane/detail.aspx?id=2982029&pg=1&pp=0&d=0&nv=1

How's that for a good example of 'accelerated depreciation' (a $580,000 loss in value after 90 kms!)

"Showroom condition WAS $1,280,000 (NEW PRICE) NOW $695,000. This Vehicle has only travlled 90km."

I've seen something similar in a Finnish car magazine where they're selling a "new" (they don't state the km's but its hardly more than a few hundred) McMerc for almost half the price for a new one. Bargain if you ask me.

I still do not know why the Maybach 62 costs more than a million dollars in Australia (the recommended retail price of a Maybach 62 is $1.15 million {Australian dollars} in Australia). I understand the Australian dollar is weak... For example, the exchange rate is $1 Australian approximately equals/= 0.60 euro(s), 0.75 American dollar(s), and 0.40 British pound... and I understand Australia has fairly high taxes for these imported cars (plus GST :D) but I thought the Maybach 62 price should have been well under a million Australian dollars.

Who knows?

P.S - the Rolls Royce Phantom LWB is over $1 million Australian as well. :D

Australian LCT (luxury car tax) is the killer compared to world prices. 17% on every dollar over $49,000 (after import duties and GST has been levied).

Doesn't matter that much though, most of these expensive cars ($200,000+) are purchased through a business and this results in LCT being a "imputational tax credit".
