Hi

I am new here. Would search but not sure what word to search under...
Can anyone please explain me the reason behind these? Is it some sort of Japanese cartoon or something? Like some sort of super modified Initial D?

More and more unusual can be found in some of the galleries on this site.

to me it seems like the latest tuning trends in Japan :) Ever seen the riced vans they make ?

Its more of an art thing than a drivability thing I would assume. I can't see the 4th and 5th cars making it over a speed bump/low kerb/road paint.

I've read that it's a kind of backlash against/poking fun at the tuner scene in Japan. They deliberately make their cars as stupid and hideous as possible.

Ah, that would be Bososuko.
Here's a thread about it at another forum I visit.

I believe it dates back to the 70s or something.... its certainly odd

They did it to motorcycles too. Japanese model manufacturers like Aoshima and Fujimi had 1/24 scale model kits for them years ago.

Thanks Revolution... Is nice to know the reasoning behind the madness. So it is like Japanese Hot Rodding. Seems that perhaps they actually are rather fast too...
It has been puzzling me for ages - had even asked my friends who have lived in Japan but they didn't know (non car fans tho).

Some of the subtle ones look pretty sweet but a lot of them get a bit carried away on the spoilers for my liking...

And yeah we get some of those riced vans imported over here... pimpwagons. Good for a laugh!

im sure you could jap spec a golf... some Voks GT-Cs, lowered coilovers, tuner stickers, subtle bodykit, bit of carbon fibre and youre sweet!

Some sweet sounding Japanese Golfs (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7316391347402356227&q=vw)racing.

Check the gallery for some pretty nicely done-up Golfs:

not bad! Although... it could do with a plywood spoiler and oil cooler hanging off the front...
