This challenge itself has been around for quite a while, but I hate to keep repeating it everytime someone posts a new car... this will be here for reference, and I'll post a bunch once we've accumulated enough :)

The Challenge:

Post a picture of your name (username, hopefully) on a sheet of paper that is stabbed over the shifter of your car. (Preferably, mention UCP as well, but I suppose you don't have to)

Want proof, here's proof.

Edited by Egg Nog: I posted a photoshopped version of this image, so you can at least slightly read it ;)

just out of criousity, why didnt he post it himself ?!!

and again, not trying to doubt the proof or anything, just out of curiosity. how can we know what kind of car this is by picturing the gear knob only ??!

Well in Turbo_Fumes' case is easy cause he posted various pics of the inside.

Mine would be easy cause it's easy to believe that I have a Civic :) (I don't have a digital camera, but will try to get one from a friend or something just to add another proof of ownership to the collection ;) )

Kiwitt I believe him cause I have seen the interior of Galants. Plus he is in a VR-4 club, etc.

I don't know anything about libras at all. But I believe Suka.

But yes, maybe over the Hood or something could be a better proof? I don't know...

Suka

I don't know anything about libras at all. But I believe Suka.
The interior matches the car very well dont you think. This way you can tell that the car is the same.

Yeah, the interior is red just as the car is. But couldn't this be done on any other car in the whole world? ;)

I said I believed you.

I know you believe me.
Surely you could take a variety of pictures showing the car is yours like interior then pan out and round to the front.

we need to modify the ownership proof.

How about on the steering wheel, or on the inside of the windscreen? Or on the engine, if its a pretty distintive engine (like if it says Toyota 2.0 Twin Cam)

bballmikey105

OK I am going to solve this stupid problem once and for all. Every one on this forum, go outside, get a big knife and carve your name on the door of you car, then stand next to the car and take a picture holding your user name on a piece of paper. If it is not your car, you will be arrested and will never be allowed on UCP again. If you have a nice car though, DONT do step one.

Hey, at least it's an idea.

proving ownership through pictures can only be done if you trust the person's word

Putting your name on the inside or outside of the car can be done anywhere-i could find a ferrari at the local supermakrket and quickly write werty on a peice of paper then take the picture- and no one would ever know if it was truly mine or just another car i saw--same thing can be done at a nice car show

SilverG35SportC
04-25-2004, 11:46 AM
NOt if you go on the inside and do it and take many pics.

that can be easily done at a car show, especially when they leave the car doors, hood, and trunk already open for you

Gabman
04-28-2004, 03:59 AM
I'm not sure how to explain this, but...

Put a piece of paper with your name on it behind the windshield, and take a picture from the outside where we can see both the name and enough of the car to make sure that it is, in fact, what you claim it to be.

To prevent the use of cars from exhibitions, you should also take a picture of yourself nude at the front seat. :)

Lack of digital cameras has made my name/car flick unavailable.

<AAA-MOD>
04-28-2004, 07:11 AM
why not just take a picture of your ownership slip. over here they have your name on it, as well as the VIN and Make/Model. Blur out any other data you don't want shown. done deal!

How about a photo of you and the car salesman, not neccessarily mounted, a copy of your birth certificate, a scan of your drivers licence, a fax of your bank statement, an artists impression of your passport, a web cam image of you shagging the local bike in the back seat, a charcoal etching of your school leavers statement and a note from your mum?

I don't have a license but I do have my own car .... Nissan Micra .... Would I get 2 points even if its a boxy, top of the range MK1 but still crap muddy field stormer? In a few weeks I'm getting a Subaru though .... What sort you may be asking? Impreza? No .. Legacy? No. It's the old pickup thing they made ages ago! It can drive in a straight line so it needs a sledgehammer to something to sort out the tracking! Hey, once I get that does this mean I have a car collection??? :p In that case .... will I get 4 points and a bonus point for a collection of cars :D ?? Anyway ... I'll post some pics of my Micra. I would say she's a beaut but then I'd be telling seriously big lies!

05-31-2004, 05:32 AM
well i wood love to claim ownership of the lovely blue thing pictured here but that woodnt be provable so i took some fotos of the awesome yellow beast also pictured, i didnt put the paper on the stick coz its only like 2 inches of shifter (i cut it really short) so its inside the driver window (i seriously woodnt claim ownership of this car unless it was mine and you'd have to agree with me here)i was originally planning to actually do some stuff with it just cause its been in the family since new (mums car) but i dont think i will. its just a good dependable car and i look after it and it looks after me. i did try and get a photo through the rear windscreen so you can see the interior better (i have actually worked on the interior a bit) but the glare from that aussie sun, well its not so good for cameras. and if the pic looks distorted its coz i took them at a massive resolution and they had to be shrunk to be uploaded. sorry bout that.

Good point, Like i could have just SAID i owned a datsun and i doubt anyone would have gone "no you dont! egg nog test! or we wont believe you!" coz its a datsun... if i said yeh iv got a 04 HSV GTS then id have to produce or be shunned... its all relative, the better your car the less chance you have of people believing you.

I like the idea of takin a pic of piece of paper over shifter, but takin pic so whole dash could be seen. Maybe we could have pics were we need the hood up and the hood down, something to make pics harder to fake.

If someone is going to cheat they are going to cheat and if they successfully cheat you they will rejoice just that much more. Why not keep proof, optional. If someone wants to lie about a car they don't have they must have some pretty serious issues and this is their outlet. Share pics of your cars here and share pics of just cool cars somewhere else.

I have an Enzo and you are a doofus....I can really someone with an Enzo validating himself like this.

it saves a whole lot of BS and hassle in pointless and wasted convos with kiddies who want to claim owernship of cars they only have wet dreams about :)

It keep sthings honest here on UCP and we know it's a simple test.
All claims for a car have to meet the challenge.
Then nobody is victimised if someone asks them to prove it.
I think we get LESS kiddie-claims here on UCP becuase the challenge is the first thing asked. So folks know not to bother with any BS.

It still can be considered a quantum leap from horses to cars :) . Fortunately my daughter gave up horses five years ago and she is now pottering along in the MR2. No track ambitions though.

I'm a compulsive collector of nice cars.

The A610 is still here, is mine and mine alone :) About to go for a complete engine rebuild - it's more complex than I'm happy taking on. So saving pennies !!

The Bagheeras continue to be my "long term projects" ( now in it's 4th year ) which is a complete concourse rebuild using a 'new' chassis. In all likelohood at the end of the rebuild the 2 1/2 cars will only result in one road car - less road tax and insurance :)

The Espace is the 'horse transport' and is slowly starting to look and smell like a stables !! :(

The Corsa is the family town car and wife/daughters current commute trasnport.

On the 'shared' front, the MGB GT is now confirmed SOLD. So we've 2 months to source and prep a new car for this seasons rallying. 1961 Mini Copper is the current top candidate. The Stryker has now had the Burton engine installed and we picked up some new ancillaries at the Autosport show Burton stand along with full potti and Avanti as a lateChristmas pressie to myself :)

Phew, it's been a busy last month and helluva lot busier year !!!!
Especially as currrently the insurance company are asking more for the Quantum for my daughter. So we may drop a 1100 Ford lump in till she gets a years experience and they're willing to cover the XR2 engine !!

Why the hell would anyone in thier right mind put a personal number plateon a corsa. Its o.k on a bigger car. Eg. mercedes. EG My grandads which is DWH 266. DWH standing for his initilals

maybe because they want to, because they don't have a merc, because they think you can be a prat without having a merc. whats wrong with having your initials on your plates? what makes it alright for your grandad to put them on his merc but not for Clivey to put them on his Corsa?

Sorry to bother people but how do you use the quote feature on this forum? I was going to say that I'll be having the corsa as my first car and the number plate was less than £300...better than "chavving it". If I could afford a mercedes for my first car I'd have one, but i'd wait until I had the experience to drive it. When you want to quote, just click the "quote" button and the whole message window will open with the message you want to quote. You can select through normal editing what specific part of the message you want to quote. If you are able to quote this, then you have mastered the art.

We had a show on discovery Channel (Wheelers/Dealers) where they bought an MR2 in a pretty bad state, refurbished it and sold it with a nice profit. Wouldn't know whether Canadian discovery would boradcast that (it was an English programme) but it gave some nice hints what and how to do things.

I've seen some bent 5Zigen wheels. Might want to spend your money elsewhere. BBS, Borbet, OZ. Just goofing on TireRack.com, I think a 16x7 OZ Superturismo in bronze with a custom polished 2" lip would look stellar. Or if you're going to race it, forget the lip. Thanks, being pre-evo it doesn't stand out in the crowd, my wifes car only has a tape player so with the 'grale off the road the stereo goes into her car..... i'm not one of those people who don't believe in having a stereo in their car, (I know some lancia people who feel this way) quite the opposite... decent tunes can enhance the driving experience.... especially its LOUD!

That's an awesome car! What motor do you have in there?

D2LTA
06-01-2005, 11:47 AM
It is a small family hatchback which was modified for rally purposes by Lancia after the Group B super cars were outlawed.

It has a 2.0 liter turbocharged motor with an advanced differential 4wd system.
In standard form in 1987 (first year of manufacture) it had 185bhp, weighing 1200kg. 0-60 was 6.57sec top speed 133mph. Quite respectable in '87.
I had planned to keep it stock but i started to get beaten by fast old cars which was more embarrasing than the ricers (escort mk2 with cossie power comes to mind) so I have now modded mine with a BWE chip, Abarth High lift cam and a few more bits n pieces, it should be pushing at least 260hp now

Should I prove my '90 Corolla?
A nice little thing, gets us from Point A to B, white and MANUAL :)
I don't drive anyway so its actually no use. But if its here long enough I can learn how to drive in it :)
BUT - 1.3L, but just 120kph/4000rpm MAX :(
I sometimes go to sleep on just 20 minute journeys because of how slow it is...
Oh well, I'll post some pics if anybody wants to see, its clean ATM so it won't look so bad :p :)

Yes, to be truly honest I wanted a proper BMW, but they were just too expensive or had to be the 316i... in which case I decided for the Mini.

Hello all.
New here and the first thing I have to do is show off my new baby.
My RX8. She's so good to me. I haven't broken her in yet though, so I haven't had a chance to see what she can really do. Only 300 miles on her.
We picked up the showroom floor car, perelli 18" axis rims, and perelli low-profile tires that just finish the look and hold the car to the road.
My dream car, since I *used* to have a first gen RX7, which I also loved. Until someone rearended me and _I_ got the ticket.
Hey an 18yr old girl in a sports car and an old man in a pickup, I was in third gear, the cop thought I didn't stop at the stop sign. I had to - my significant other stop first, and had to wait on a car! The engine was modded, but the tires were still old, and it was wet outside, I'd spin out or at least bark my tires REALLY bad if I started in first. But hey, the old cop wouldn't know a good car if it hit him.
So anyway - my RX8 baby. I've got more, but I don't have them accessable right now.

Nice car, could you just comply with the egg-nog test by slapping a piece of paper w/ your UCP name on it over the shifter and providing a pic. (Just scroll up to get a visual of what I'm saying) :)

yeah, if I had it with me, I would. But the hubby has it today - so he can show it off :) We have an agreement that he can have it twice a week. He loves it too, but since I lost my RX7, the 8 is "My" car. Wouldn't wouldn't have gotten it without his credit though, so I've gotta give him a little :)

Very generous of you. I'm sure your husband enjoys that deal. :)

Speaking of RX-8's, this f'n girl that lives 3 houses away from me dropped out of school as a senior, and instead of being scolded by her family, receives a brand new Black RX-8, fully loaded. Or maybe she does prostitution, IDK. She might have an STD.

Sounds like the agreement my aunt and uncle have for his blue one. He drives it most days, but once or twice a week they swap. He let me drive it once too, but I don't think that'll happen too often. He's been with me in my car so he knows how I drive. :)

One time somebody brought in a V12 coupe to the shop and I had to do it, but is it just me or is that V12 rather... not very V12-like? Or do you need alot of space to let it stretch it's legs?

Indeed-the V12 model too. Last time I checked, the engine filled practically every nook and cranny under the hood. ;)

Radoman
09-08-2005, 09:39 PM
Yes, I cracked the hood when I was washing it; there's alot of engine in there. I just noticed that when you press the pedal, it kind of creeps forward. No explosion of acceleration or anything of the sort, it didn't even sound great. Obviously it's not a lamborghini, but I'd expect a GT with a V12 to at least move it's ass when I depress the gas pedal.

I'm going to assume it's like a german car: very relaxed at low speeds, you have to work it to make it scream.

Matra et Alpine
09-09-2005, 12:48 AM
The XJS was severely restricted by the US emissions which choked the engine. Very common problem of the day :(

BUT, the XJS was a Grand Tourer and so wasn't a Jag for acceleration. It was in the stable of luxury at speed rather than outright performance. I never found the auto box that good and had never driven a manual with that engine so always felt that the UK spec one was not as good as it might have been.
