:D rally cars sound cool but i think that the best sound is from tractor pullers, there is a track near me that they race on twice a year. i live like 3 miles from it and i can still hear it pretty clear. The engines that they use are 8.4 litre supercharged hemi V8 drag engines that have around 2500 BHP each and consume about 13 litre's of methanol every 100 meters. each tractor has 5 or six of these engines which is why i like them so much. overall they have like 7500 BHP
:D

Here is one of the Most Unique Engine Sounds ever,
Well the Le Mans winning rotaries were never quite a stock motor :)

Also, the clips you've posted remind me of seeing a lion in an enclosure in a zoo.
It never quite looks as dangerous in a cage where it can't do what's natural and when feeding doesn't involve chasing and killing.
To hear a racing engine properly it needs to be RACED.
Engines do NOT sound the same under no-load conditions.
Unfortunately http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/787B/index.html#AUD seem to have lost their videos and audio files from Le Mans :(
It sounds even better when at full chat, at full speed under load.

But still a lovely sound than can be admired - even with a slight sorrow for it being "chained up" :)

the scream of the high revving porsche CGT v10 (reminds me a lot of F1) or the wine of the supercharger and the deep exhaust note of the SLR.
anyone hear the sound of the v10 in the new m5?

you just cant beat teh sound of the R26b, even hard core domestic V8 guys hear that sound and want to cry. everytime i see a 787b or a 792p i blank out and hear it in my head, i think its turning into a medical condition :( ;)

if your a V8 fan then you'ff probably love the exhaust note of the V8 Supercar's (both Holden and Ford) but because this topics on ENGINE note, the high strung nature of the engines used in V8 Supercars gives them a very raspy and course sound, which isnt that pleasant to listen to for great lengths of time. So then for engine note i think my dads E36 M3 sounds pretty smooth over 150km/h (ive been up to around 220km/h on the motorway with my dad driving and it still sounded very good for those speeds and RPM's) i havent been in anything that really compares to the E36 so for now i think that will have to be my pick. my dads V8 Fairmont sounds good, but the exhaust note dominates over the engine note which is a good thing as the windsor is fairly coarse
