about the mercedes engine pic... what is on the pipes leading to the exhuast mufflers?? it looks like it melted..or has aluminum foil wrapped aroung it :p

Used to keep engine bay temparatures down where their are longish exhust pipe runs.
You can buy it to add to your own car for the final under-the-bonnet rice look :)

oh ok, i didn't know that...do they use that on any Lemans cars?

Yes.
Pretty much any sportscar will have some somewhere.
Designers will try to maximise airflow to include engine ( and exhaust ) cooling as part of the exit routes. But it's hard to get it all for nothing. So where hotspots occur, you'll see them add insulation.
Look close at the pipes going from block to turbo and note the turbo body is wrapped to.
BTW, you can also see in the forertgound that the 2 oil pipes are also wrapped. Insulation works in both directions :)

20 years ago ....

Straight 6, DOHC 4 valves per cylinder, 100bhp from 1litre in stock form.

GREAT sound with the right pipes :)

This series of photos were taken of a cutaway of the engine and gearbox on display at Scottish Bike Show last week.....

Well the picture was taken around christmas and the tinsel and santa were just lying around! It seemed to make a good picture though.

A 70s boss 302 engine
The australain chrysler 265 cubic inch 6 boasting a stock brace of webbers as well a just a micky whisker off 400 hp..
And last but not least the engine from my dads 65 studebaker with 8 honda single barrel carbies (make a not the engine bay is more decorated then this now dad machined up serverl more alluminium clamps...and yes he madethe air cleaners himself...)

It's a TL 2.5. I think it's a 1995 model year.

I don't know if you guys get it down in Australia. You might have gotten another badge engineered car.
