looks like the ferrari got a particularly bad start though.. the revs bogged down alot once he tried to go...

Er... I'd have thought that the Smart would have needed wheelie bars :p

Am i correct in guessing that the Fourtwo wasn't completely stock...?
What was it running?

It's called "mechanical sympathy" aka "I don't want to knacker the clutch/gearbox on my brand new Ferrari by doing repeated full-bore standing starts".

Reading the comment describing the video - it has a bike engine.

somehow the ferrari still turns out the winner in my mind. win or lose in a smart, you're still in a smart.

The car is portuguese and belongs to someone who's a member of my forums.
This car is a very interesting project, much ahead of those made by Z-cars, since this one has a mid-mounted GSXR 1000 K5 engine (not back mounted like the in Z-car). That's why it's a bit more stable. They use it at freestyle demos and events. The usual driver is also one of the best portuguese motorbike freestylers. Here's his website: http://www.arrepiado.com/html/modules/news/article.php?storyid=52
Of course the Ferrari had an horrible start, but the fact that the performance can be compared is already amazing.

Maybe the 499bhp Hayabusa Turbo that's hanging around these parts somewhere...

The Smart doesn't have a launch control, so it would be a bit unfair, right?

It's not far from being a gigantic bike engine either. :)
