OK, new quiz for you all...

You have to guess the car company.

As soon as someone has it right I'll post the next badge.

Ready .....

Oldsmobile have officially shut down. As far as i know, GM have owned them for all or near-all of their productive life and were widely known for being GM's test subjects, being the first to recieve things like auto transmissions and other things that GM tried on Oldsmobile before the risk of applying it across their range

NOT Cadillac :)
My concern over timezones was in case you were able to answer a few hours before anyone else even gets to see it.
The badges are globally diverse :) I'd thought it would have taken an 'mericun to guess that first one.

OK, toughies like this are going to keep popping up.
This would be no fun if they were all easy.

So the car company was formed in 1907 and listed on the stock market in 1992. Now mainly trucks and components and special vehicles. One factory provides the gearboxes for a mainline battle tank :)
It's NOT American :) :)

Buick.

(I assume that your source is a book titled: Automobile Encyclopedia, of which I have a Dutch translation. If that's the case I will abstain from further participation) :) :)

Actually this answer this wrong, and very wrong too. Chrysler worked until 1920 for Buick, and then left in a row. According to my source there are two options of what the logo really is, either Chalmers or Maxwell. Furthermore my book does not give all the badges so I will continue :)

Couple of sources, the text I posted was trimmed from http://www.ozmopars.50megs.com/chryslerhistory.htm
And confirmed in http://www.chryslerclub.org/histry.htm

After leaving Buick, Chrysler joined Maxwell to restore it to healthy condition and went on to be renamed Chryserl Corp.

After leaving Buick, Chrysler joined Maxwell to restore it to healthy condition and went on to be renamed Chryserl Corp.

According to my "source" Chrysler, after he fell out with Buick, hired three engineers in 1920 to develop a car along his ideas. For this purpose he made available an old Chalmers factory. (could it be that the translators gave a free interpretation of the Maxwell-Chambers company or was there really a company called Chalmers. At least that name lives in the Allis-Chalmers tractor factory). In 1923 the result of the effort was the Chrysler Six, of which in the first year a 50 mln US$ orderbook could be registered. In 1925 the old Maxwell car was replaced by the Chrysler Four.
Anyway, I' ll continue to play. :)

just checked your source, and it appears that "Chambers" is an invention of the translators.

One BIG NO to ever guess so far.

Some more hints .....

Through the years ********** participated in all types of competition. Noteworthy events included: around-the-world endurance trials (1910-1912), visit to all the state capitols (1916), 1932 Indianapolis 500 race (finished 5th) and many local endurance-type competitions.
The first police car for Detroit was a 1910 *********. The US Army used **********in WW I as General staff cars to visit the front lines, and as ambulances. Train/car race from Capetown to Johannesburg, South Africa in 1924 (Train won the race). Train/car rematch race in 1990, (Car won this time).

I love the last part. It raises the question if this was because the roads were better or the rails and trains worse :)

This one is an obscure British one so a big help is in order ....

The manufacturer was a supplier to Jaguar. Production of the xxxxxxx was halted when Jaguar gave the company an ultimatum; if they continued to market a rival sportscar to the XK 120, Jaguar would go elsewhere for the many components they supplied.

They originally built scooters. When their first car was exhibited at the 1954 Motor Show it was called the most beautiful car on display and the designer described as a genius.

Just for you , I checked :)

There are 5 UK kit badges in the series.

The question is, do you stay tuned, guess and learn on the others till those pop up.
( No, I'm not going to post them all next, it's too much hassle to post them out of order :) )
The problem with kits, is there are SO many of them and most of them don't survive long or don't produce many cars. And they definately struggle coming up with badges - most are boring :)
And so many are hard to anonimise. Take the letters GTM out and what have you got - a circle !!! I think that would be unfair :) At least with the badges I've got here, even though anonimised there is still a HINT as to what the vehicle is !!!

But the name is not British :)

I had to go check.
The addition of the flag was later in the company history.
Original badge didn't have it.
Another hint .... that flag is BEHIND the bull too.
It reflects when the company moved from it's original base to this location.
( It is no United Kingdom )

The orignal badge had NO flag.
The flag was added (I presume) when it moved to a region ( there's a hint there ) with this as their flag.
Don't know why it's not in the car badge, but the flag for that region I can find has a crown in the middle of the Union Flag. The bottom part of the flag is like waves.
So it didn't come from or go to UK.
A more exotic starting point.

This was a very long shot, I googled for Canadian car makers and to my own surprise found Intermeccanica there, and located in BC. I thought they had died a long time ago in Italy.
Whether this is a waste of time is a philosophical issue. Are we on earth to guess badges? To look at carwebsites while the bathroom needs major refurbishment? Not necessarily but it increases the fun factor of life.

No, not jeep or Willys either.
Hmm, Unimog, I think it may have better off-road capability, I don't think the quote I used included special articulated chassis vehicles.
The quote was comparing 'passenger vehicles'.

They formed a new company in May 1999 with an Italian firm with a famous name for the distribution and sale of an off-road vehicle in Europe.
The army of a once major nation (BIG HINT!) used their vehicles for transport and off-road.

Well, AZ stands for automobilni zavod (car factory) so it can be any letter in front. I thought it was G for Gorki, but it can also be U for Ural. I have been in those when in mongolia and they really stand out for a lack of confort but probably their off-road capabilities are quite good.
