^^That's what I thought...why doesn't Ford give America that kind of sexiness to promote sales.

Not sure about the rims, but otherwise that's terrific. I hope they're going to bring that here.

They might once Falcon exports get into full swing. Until then, thats got alot of styling cues from the 2008 Falcon as well.

those wheels are almost exactly like the gallardo's, Lexus GS's headlights & the rear lights are from the new Jag XK but seeing the improvement i'll let them off.

adrenaline
09-24-2006, 05:09 AM
Wow so many comparisons. How do you liken the rear lights to the XK?

IF you want a comparison, it all comes from the Iosis. From the headlights to the tail lights, even the body crease and wheels are the same (the wheels being identical)

It looks fine, love the flared wheel-arches. I'm no NFS-freak but couldn't the rims do with just one more inch? It would make a world of difference in my opinion.

They could bring this back to NA as the new Taurus.

twinspark

They could bring this back to NA as the new Taurus. I thought the Taurus was a bit bigger than the Mondeo, and IIRC at least the mk2 Mondeo was sold in the North America as Ford Contour.

Designwise, I think this new one looks a bit heavy, especially in the rear 3/4 pic.

I hated Contours, what horrible cars.

Not bad. Don't like the rear though. But I think it's gonne be a good car.

if they had that + the falcon in NA
that would be awesome

also wished they'd add the GR1

Iosis in itself is heavily Jag-inspired. Which isnt a bad thing.

It looks very nice...I don't get the almost direct copy Gallardo rims though.

I'm sure Ford can screw it up before it reaches production.

PerfAdv

Similarities wise, the crease along the side looks very similar to the Acura TSX's.

Altogether, a very handsome car. A return to the US might not be a bad idea, might be a little too similar to Ford Fusion.

I think it looks too tall and out of proportion and those wheels are not big enough. I'll wait until I see it for real though.

It's a European Ford.

Hmmm, interesting. I can definately see the Renault in the taillights, but my first thought on looking at it was "Iosis".
And yes I can see the Gallardo in the wheels, but they're really more like those on the Focus XR5/ST.

I just thought of something. The new James Bond movie features the new Mondeo and it is partly being shot in the Bahamas (IIRC). So this is probably the car that's being used in the movie.

matek

there are small cues taken from loads of different cars, for ec=xample the BMW sides with the taught edges, the Mercedes front headlights, and the XK rear lights not exactly but similar:p

any how at least its not too bland an not just another car to fill a segment.....

Interesting...

I don't see why a couple of people think it is not just "Not good looking", but "UGLY". I find that hard to justify. It's all subjective though.

IMO it's a beautiful car.

EDIT: I think Lagonda is right, the Mondeo pictured looks too clean and shiny for a test vehicle!!

That's correct... The pics that are mentioned in the first post are taken whilst filming the new James Bond movie. According to most media the Mondeo we can see here will not be the standard Mondeo but a 'ST' version (based by the look of the rims, they are similar to the ones on the Focus ST). A couple days back Ford already has shown some pics of a Mondeo stationcar which will be presented on the upcomming Paris Motorshow. The stationcar will be presented first because it's the best selling Mondeo in the whole range...

Myself, I think it looks great from the front 3/4 view, but the back looks like its been squashed in - too sorta flat looking. The waistline looks exactly the same as the Focus sedan.

So is this car going to form the styling basis for the 2008 Falcon then?

Esperante
09-27-2006, 04:54 PM
It frustrates me that Ford, while essentially lying on its deathbed and bleeding profusely, doesn't realize that their extremely high quality products are being built and sold everywhere but America.

Im pretty sure it will, but the link wont be as strong as between Iosis and Mondeo for example.

I like it. We have the Fusion/Zephyr(Z)/Mazda 6 instead I guess. I like the Mazda. I confess I've caught myself staring at Lincoln Zephyrs at stop lights lately, in the right color its not a bad looking car.

Ford should start selling its european models rebadged as Mercurys in the North American market.

Sort of like how GM will start selling Opels/Vauxhauls as Saturns in America

As do Ford and Lincoln. They need something sporty, yet affordable.

adrenaline
09-30-2006, 09:05 PM
Yes, but if I was going to import Euro cars I would supply them to just one brand. I hate the rubbish FoMoCo is doing right now by giving Ford, Lincoln and Mercury basically the same, rebadged models (Although I admire Lincoln for making the effort of changing alot on the donor car before releasing it to the market)

BMW325
10-03-2006, 01:21 PM
yeah, Ford should stick to normal affordable american stuff, Lincoln should stick to bloated luxury, and Mercury can represent Ford's global market in the US... imagine a flagship Mercury based on the aussie Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo, alongside a rebadged Mondeo, Focus ST, and S-MAX ... sounds good to me

Whenever some wrongly motivated, unmorally financed arab decides to take it over there. Probably to drive it sideways down a crowded highway or something equally as drastic and ridiculous.
