This is just a general inquiry into the future of Porsche started by a Porsche lover and for Porsche lovers. I was wondering if anybody knew the skinny on the 997 turbo s, (when it will be released, eninge, etc), same with the GT2(or GT2 RS if there is one), what the engine of the new Panamera will be (I hear it's the Cayenne's 4.5L V8), if there will be more versions of the Panamera, etc. Also I was wondering about Porsches Carrera GT sucessor set to be realeased in 2009-2010. I saw what one Road and Track's graphically designed interpretation was and was wondering if anyone knows anything about the next Porsche supercar. Anyways, feel free to chat about one of the best automakers and it's future. And what about the 998 911...? Who knows!

Hmm the 998s are a bit far off but you have most of the info on the others....the GT sucessor will most likely be called the GT1. :D Porsches rule.

All praise be to Ferry Porsche. Those two cars are going to be, in lieu of other words, satanically fast. Like. Really, really, fast. I am scared of 3.6 L engines. I love how what Ferrari / Lamborghini (I love those companies dearly too) do with a 6L V-12, Porsche does with a <4L V6.

I've only read that they'll be released sometime mid-late next year, hopefully sooner in Spring.

But I do agree with The_Canuck. A 998 model is very far off. We just had the 997 released, what, 2 years ago?

The 996 lasted about, again guessing, near a decade? I expect the 997 to last about the same time.

Isn't the GT1 series Porsche the street versions of their Le Mans race car in the GT1 class...? Thats what the last GT1 was.

on the design part , i am personaly extremely glad they came back towards the "rounder" style of headlights for the 911 . never liked the boxter style ones .

Arash Farbaud hatched a super-dupercar that was a close copy of the outgoing GT1 in the mid-late 90's before he moved on to building less unlikely cars. Never heard much about those, but I don't think the kids over in Stutgart were happy.

The only thing i am iffy about is the new turbo's lower fascia. I like it, but I loved the old 996's deep slatted dual air intake. I guess I will warm up to the new turbo's fascia. And bigups to strega13. The new headlights are simply gorgeous.

Yeah, I agree. It's simple and good looking. The old one complicated things.

:) I like the idea of a road going RS Spider. :) I also like the idea of Porsche having 3 road GT's, GT1, GT2, and GT3 all at the same time. I saw a vid somewhere (aka Google vid or Youtube) of a GT1, GT2, and GT3 driving around somewhere in Germany with a German announcer. I got a hard on.

If they want to bring back the name might as well not bother at all. It shouldnt be called a GT1 unless it is the road going verion of the racecar that races in that class. Period.
