My 500th is coming closer, so I thought I'd mark it with something special.

Attached is a kind of 'chop' of the E92 M3 Test-mule. Not really a chop, but more an attempt to remove the cloaking-tape to reveal what I think the new M3 might look like.

Thanks to m3post.com for the original.

I dare you to do a Winding Road and post it to a magazine :D go on! It looks real to me... just the side indicator that's a bit odd.

Awesome work.

Awesome... just the gills need some rework.

Since BMW is covering the hood, perhaps there's some vent in it? Since 335 is going the Turbo way.... don't you think the E92 M3 might be going Turbo as well? A vent or scoop might be in place. (Something like the M3 GTR? or Skyline V-Spec II. )

The new M3 will have a V8 version of the M5's 5-litre V10 engine.

It looks great, except the hood bulge is a bit shady looking. A nice job overall.

Wouldn't that give it along the lines of 400 horsepower or so, probably a little more with some more performance oriented programming? :D

Very nice, clean chop. Very clear indication of the direction of the styling.

Yes. If it keeps the same specific out put as the M5, 405bhp.

Awesome job on "uncovering" the M3 but even if it looks like that, even if it's alright, the current M3 still looks better...

Why detuned? The 4-litre V8 in the M3 will be as good as the V10 in the M5 if not better, just smaller. And if you want an M5 engined 3-series you can always buy an Hartge H50.

I mean .. purposely making it less capable to take care of something that would eventually earn better,....

Detuned would be like the new RS6 (S6? I forget which) with the Lamborghini engine de-tuned. If it's a V8 version of a V10 engine, then it's a new power-plant,it's not detuned. Plus car manufacturers need to keep it that way, if you could get a cheaper/faster car than another car in their own line up, it would defeat the purpose of the more expensive car.

the current M3 still looks better...

There are some designs out there that are just too perfect to be tampered with for further perfection. I think the E46 M3 definitely falls in that category. One could still see the old E36 M3 in the E46's design, preserving its presence; but this new one has strayed too far and too quickly from that classic shape. Not really my cup of tea.

Oh yea, and good job taking off the black tape Kooper, it looks real:).

Thanks for the compliments all, appreciate it :)

This is my 499th post, but for my 500th, I'll try to refine the shave a bit according to the feedback I've been getting and post that one as my 500th.

I think I'll take you up on that challenge too Sam, who knows, might turn up something :D

The Audi V10 is 0.2L larger and has more torque than the lambo. IMO thats not detuned, just different.

I read somewhere that it has a larger bore (84,5mm v 82,5mm) to accomodate direct fuel injection, which the Gallardo engine doesn't have.

Kooper, your chop is very well done. My only complaint is with BMW themselves, I can't help but feel the new M3 is going to be very boring visually. I saw a new 3 series coupe on the road, and was extremely underwhelmed.

this is a good chop and useful too. perhaps kooper was a tad conservative with the details. As eith the M5 there may be several little details yet unrevealed that will make it stand out more. It is likely that under testing it has modified coupe body work. imho...

OK, here's an update.

It's based on some feedback I got (some from another forum). What I did was change the side-skirt, gill, front bumper and bulge on the bonnet.

Personally I'm not too keen on the bumper-style, the side-skirt was made to look more like that of the M6, the gill I'm not satisfied with yet, and the bulge, well it still doesn't look quite right does it?

Anyway, thanks all for the feedback, I really appreciate it! :)

Yeah, 500th!

That hood, I've tried some different things with it but it just ends up looking worse for some reason... In the end I just tried to blend in the color. I'll keep working on it though and post as soon as it looks better. :)

Sorry, i dont get the effect you wanted with the hood? wats it suppose to show? i like ur first chop thou. The 'side skirts' of the first chop blends really well with the current concave looks, and the 2nd chop's front lip is a lil overdone...
