So, I got the brilliant idea of buying a new tv for myself. Budget is like $1,500, with 2k being the highest I'd go.

Tell me what to buy, k, thx. <3

My ideas:
- LCD preferably over plasma
- Flat Panel over projection I guess
- Very good picture quality
- Good value
- Somewhere in the high 30" range. 37" is optimal.

Well, I'm thinking more like 37", perhaps even 42". And yeah, I saw Dell's LCD tv's, they were very impressive. Westinghouse I heard is alright but I haven't seen one in person, which is the same reason that I'm scared to buy off of newegg. I know their prices are good, but I want to go to the store and see all of these televisions in person.

I'm just going to stay up all night and head over to Paramus Park mall @ around 10 a.m. to check out the Dell kiosk. Then I'll probably hit up Best Buy and see what they've got.

Perhaps if you go to Pennsylvania Best Buy and suck off Quiggs he'll give you a discount?

Not too sure if American models differ from the ones we have here, but the 32" Sharp w/ inbuilt HD tuner is about AU$2.5k here and probably the best available for the money
The usual Sony, Panasonic, Samsung are around that price range too and pretty good...

EDIT: Sorry, that's 32" not 37

EDIT2: New Sony 32" with HD tuner is apparently very good, but $AU3500, which seems to be out of your price range

Well how about a non-flat-screen TV ? The image quality is much better and they last decades instead of years. Apart from that the price is much lower :) BUT you will need some space and a sturdy place for it to stand on :o

Personally i like the Philips TV's. They have a slightly cooler image as most japanese TV's and a very sharp image.

Sony, Samsung, Philips. $1500 buys you a lot of LCD.

And don't buy a Westinghouse. We get them returned all the time.

We have a 47" CRT television, but like McReis said, it's huge... not as huge as my penis but huge.

I was reading Popular Mechanics and they actually found that it was cheaper to build one using a flat panel, speaker system and TV tuner. But this was about a year ago.

The 4051, and even its little brother the 4041, are both badass TV's.

I'd go for a Sony Bravia. They're pretty cheap now. I think you can get what you need for 1500.

I'd say your best bet is with a 40" Samsung. They have a couple 40" models. The Sony is a bit much, Samsung has the best image quality for price factor.

My dillema is this:

I want the best picture quality I can get for 2 grand. I don't care if the picture quality is pretty good, or o.k., my mind is set on clarity. If I'm going to shell out upwards of $1500, I won't skimp on the essentials.

Because of the above, I'm looking at 37" as the optimal size and price range, and Dell seems to shine above the rest. Tomorrow, I'm turning female and browsing every damn electronics store there is, until I find my mate.

P.S.: Quiggs, can you get me a discount?

Rocke, I saw a Sony Bravia LCD or Plasma (note : I'm not a electronics expert :D) which had great picture quality. Also, I've been told Panasonic and Pioneer LCD's/Plasma's are great as well.

Anyway, I hope you can find a great television.

I'd have to buy the TV, and you'd either have to pick it up or have it delivered to you.

The Bravias are Sony's XBR line, and they're very pricey. The 40" LCD is $3100. Even with my discount, it'd probably still be over 2G's.

There are some pretty damn awesome Sony LCD Tv's on the market, don't know about prices. But I trust Sony
We have:
Sony 28" tv
Sony Vaio laptop
Sony Cybershot camera
3 Sony-Ericsson phones
2 Sony Hi-Fi's
Sony CD player
2 Sony CD Walkmans
Sony DVD player
Sony Playstation
Sony Microvaults

almost everything Sony! lol

If you get a 30 something inch TV the price drops a bit.

A 32 incher is about 1600. About a 100 bucks more expensive, but it's a Sony, 'nuff said. :D

Werd. Sony's are pricey as hell though, no doubt about it. Pioneer's Elite line is even more expensive.

I love the 50 inch XBR my dad has. It's a plasma TV. Works fine. Bad thing about it is the burn in. There's a slight burn in whenever you watch movies. A couple of minutes of TV clears it out though. Great picture quality. Shame about the burn in.

He hooked up a great surround sound system too. A Yamaha receiver RXV2600 works wonders.

BTW, I heard the companies are going back to plasmas, just because the burn in makes people throw out TV's to buy new ones = more profit.

They never "went away" from plasmas. More people bought LCD's, so they built more of them. Now people who have to have the latest and greatest are getting plasmas because even common folk can afford a big LCD. It's the way the world works.
