does anyone know what ford could still do to this engine to extract more power? they said when they went with the xr6t because any tuning to the barra 182 would bee too costly and wouldnt provide the results they wanted. has any1 that owns an xr6 or something with this engine in it doen much tuning to it yet and if so what r the results

well itll be the old street machine techniques........exhaust, cams , compression.

well compression sis already at 9.7:1, so really if you wanted to change that the smartest thing would be to bump it up over 10:1 and change your ECU to benefit from 98 octane optimax. i gotta laugh though, some people have said y simply fitting a k&n filter theyve gottenm about 10kw more at the flywheel. how mad would it be if ford made the straight 6 extractor with twin exits. experts say the trick is to put the exhaust from certain cylinders together to get the right sound, so perhaps if they matched every second outlet to one and the rest to the other they could do it. my dads cressida with the straight six on the extractor its got twin exits, thats what gave me the idea

unlike holden who made the turbo 6 engine an option on all there models in the vl range the xr6 is the only model availabe with the turbo option on the ba range......how long before people start shoe horning the ba turb engines into xd xe xf model fords?

well it was widely rumoured that there would be a lower boost engine going into the fairmont ghia at about 190kw, but that was when the XR6T was supposed to be only 220kw, the rumours then grew to 230kw and 210kw. perhaps with the 280kw engine coming out soon, ford will try a 3 engine approach, with a ghia, xr and fpv all sharing a version of the engine

well i think it would be a mistake to put a turbo6 in a fairmont/fairlane ghia if thats what u were refering to...they should leave the luxury cars with lazy v8s.....and use the t6 option on the xr6 and maybe the base falcon.....afterall luxury cars are just that, they are designed more for the older crowd which dont really want to be fanging around in a turbo, but thats just my opinion.

well the fairmont ghia's marketted as a sports-luxury car now, so they could get away with a 210kw T6 in it.

SHAKER

yeah i dont know if i wanted a sports luxury car id buy a xr6t or xr8 fully optioned.

fpv_gtho

well i wouldnt think it a bad idea for the 240kw engine to be optional in the fairmont ghia, as it is, people looking for luxury with the punch of an XR8 or XR6T have to either settle for the 220 V8 or pay big for a GT-P

whats a base au 3 xr8 worth these days?...they wouldnt be a bad buy with 220kw on hand.but id much rather a ba...as i think most people would.

about $35K for the tickford kit, you might pay a lil more for the ford racing kit and more again for a 220 rebel

SHAKER
01-03-2004, 08:11 PM
wasnt the rebel a 250 kw option..or was that another car they had as an option?

fpv_gtho
01-03-2004, 08:13 PM
it was just an AU2 with the ford racing bodykit optional on the AU3, the 220kw synergy 9000 engine i think it was called, 18" wheels and leather interior with special badges. the only official ford 250kw cars were the T3 FTE's

SHAKER

it was the sony xplod car i was thinking of.im sure that they quoted 250 kwts for it

i thought they were quoting 350kw for the `xplod

i think ur right.so whatever happened to that car..was it ever offered on the market?

fpv_gtho

i think its just sitting in either fords workshop or that of Herrod who actually was the one who made it. it would be with the 2 laser SR2 `xplod cars. if anything from the car went to market it would be some of the parts herrod put on it like the dual exhaust or the 8 throttle body intake. im sure you can probably get the 1100watt stereo kit from sony

well it looked pretty tough.for an au, hope the new gtho doesnt have the same fate

believe me it wont, ford wont risk doing such a thing for such a car, if they produce a concept to see whether the public is ready for another hipo falcon they probably wont call it a GTHO either and call it something else. they were reluctant to bring back the GT so you can imagine how nervous they are about gringing the HO back

SHAKER
01-04-2004, 02:21 AM
well they brought back the "gt" back in 92, when they were a hell of a lot more cautious than they are now....i reckon they should keep the gtho, everyone can relate to it and itll put the fear back into the hsv crowd

fpv_gtho
01-04-2004, 02:29 AM
well the 92 GT was only supposed to be an anniversary edition, and for its day it wouldve been alright, had ford of put the full 200kw in there in the first place

SHAKER
01-04-2004, 02:55 AM
yeah and it gave hsv the idea to paint the inners of there air intakes on there bumpers grey.yet another first for ford again

fpv_gtho
01-04-2004, 04:17 AM
well the idea had in its own way already been there since the original GT's when ford would black out the bonnet and such, have the front and rear spoilers black on chrome and the body colour. the EBGT couldve just shown its effectiveness on a plastic bumper

holden done the same thing with the release of the ss hq and then the gts hq monaro, aswell as the gtr toranas.

well back then, alot of things done visually were just with the paintwork, and anything more was just added on. today, if either ford or holden want a meaner look on a model, they completely redo the front and rear ends.

it makes you wonder what they do in 30 or 40 years time to make cars look sportier!

well when you think about it now you start wondering what crazy things are going to be thought up
