It looks like the covers have finally come off. This issue of CAR isn't supposed to be in newsstands yet but here are the scans anyways.

It looks exactly as awful as I thought it would. They really need to stop taking styling cues from Korean car companies.

Doesn't look that bad, but it doesn't have the class of the E46 M3

I mean, it's okay for some cars to look bad. Nobody expects a Daewoo to look good. But for god's sake, an M3? It needs to look good. This one is totally over-styled. It's too complicated.

An M3 is supposed to look like a normal 3-series with tasteful go-fast bits. The E30 was a great example. The E46 looked pretty damn good too. This one just looks strange. There's nothing more to it. It just looks wierd. That's not good enough for an M3.

yea, i don't like it at all, kinda like egg nog said, it stands out for the wrong reasons. just not a solid looking car at all, almost just looks like a weaker, uglier, wannabe m6

Americans might since it is called a Chevrolet now....:)

Pity they were not the first :) In last weeks "autokampioen" were pictures taken in germany on some sort of track, undisguised :D

And check the date on this article:

13-6-06 :D The renderings were pretty close to the actual finished product. Not bad considering the date of creation of the renderings.

Can't really see much in those scans, but it doesn't look to bad. I really like the new 3-series coupes, I think they look tops. But that rear bar looks a little overdone. I can see a lot of the Z4M Coupe in it.

It's not bad until you get to the back and then you realise what a mess they've made of the design.

Indeed. Especially because the M3 is such a big departure from the Coupe design.

... and after that, the E46 still retains its podium as my 2nd dream car.

for sure they could have made it look much better, it actually look like they didnt put any effort in designing it.

I hope those pics are not of the final production model, however with a v8 and 400 plus bhp, it ought to be an interesting drive.

The front and sides are nice but like others have said, the back is a mess and it's out of proportion. Of course, we need to official media pictures to actually judge the car but from as of now...it sucks. The current model is still the pinnacle of the M3. Oh well, at least this is good news because as soon as this new model is introduced, the current model's price will go down. :D

Yes, these photos are very grainy, but judging from them I don't think the new M3 is as classy as the original ones.

However, it does take some time to get used to new designs. Everyone thought the old 7 Series was ugly (maybe some still do:D ) but I think it's pretty sweet looking now and I used to hate it.

The rear deck is the only part that I really dislike, particularly the disproportionate taillight on it.

Just as the new 5 and 3 series, this design is more of an acquired taste.

Are these genuine pics or are they chops? I ask because in the 3rd pic there don't appear to be any brake callipers front or rear...

Clearly you've all gone blind. It looks fine. Just wait until you've seen it without the page-fold in the middle.

I can see perfectly fine thanks...that it looks like crap compared to my standards of what an M3 should look like:).

I still do, and I think that the 6 is even worse... ;)

Until I see one in person I'll be forced to insult it behind its back.

ugly, but sooner or later adored by many. its always like this since Bangle was in charge.... anything with a kidney grill + propeller badge will appeal.

Just saw this on M3Post.com, not too sure if it's genuine or not:

Just to follow up on the postings about the new M3 cover story in the February 2007 issue of CAR magazine in the UK. I work on CAR's website and thought you'd like to know there's a new story up there today which has some more details about how we got the story.

One of our correspondents got hold of official sketches of the new model from design sources in Germany. The images in CAR, and on our website today (www.carmagazine.co.uk), are Photoshopped photos of a 335i, but have the exact info we obtained: namely, the exact design of front spoiler, side skirts, alloys, side gills and the new rear styling with the licence plate housed lower down.

Our information is that there will be a concept, similar to the M5 concept, at the Geneva Motor Show in early March. It'll be a very close pointer to the production car due later this year.

Don't mean to over-plug CAR, but I know there's been much chatter about the story - and thought we should explain the story's provenance. Thanks!

EVO mag has some spy shots of it. (http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evospyshots/204480/bmw_m3.html)

Don't worry, it looks f***ing horn.

rear end a tiny bit merc clk-ish, still a stunning car.

I'm afraid I like it. I actually think is looks quite good. I'm looking forward to seeing it in the streets.

The black one in the spy shots looks like a coupe cabrio. As there's a lot of seams running across the top. If the CC going to be released in 6 months... well we know what it'll look like.

IMO it looks good :)
i ACTUALLY like the headlights, unlike most of the new BMWs...

The 3-series convertible has already been released, and it is a folding metal roof convertible. Therefore very probably the M3 Cabriolet will also be a folding metal roof convertible.

its too big for a M3...the M3 is known for its small/sharpy look and body not a huge M6 like look!

welcome unknown. The RS4 is hardly a compact car and safety/comfort requirements are hardly lessening the need for larger cars, just look at the new 207 and clio.

Eh? The new 3-series coupe isn't noticeably bigger than the outgoing model, if at all.

the M3 has significant asthetic changes over the regular coupe, i think the headlights look good.

It took Chris Bangle long enough to figure out how ugly he wanted it...

good god thats plain. definately not good looking, but not exactly outright ugly either. for an m3...it's rubbish.

The design makes the rear wheels look smaller than those up front. For me, the new 3's styling just doesn't work, largely for this reason.
