mazda 2 (http://www.carpoint.com.au/car-review/2368733.aspx)

Some photo's of the new mazda 2 it's clearly been styled along the same lines as the some of their recent concepts, it looks pretty good.

Its good to hear that it will be another cross platform car that will be the base of the fiesta.

I have to say it looks quite good. Regarding the engine what I have read is that a pair of 1.3-litre (75bhp and 84bhp) and 1.5-litre (105bhp) will be offered. Concerning the diesels probably (that's my speculation) the 1.4-litre and the 1.6-litre seen in PSA and Ford cars.

We will know for sure in Geneva.

the front is actually really well handled. it's modern and edgy but still very lithe and appealing.

Kudos Mazda.

that's how small cars should look.... unlike the caliber.

The caliber is hardly a small car...

It's not even in the same segment as the Mazda 2.

Nice styling. Is this coming to America? I didn't read the link much. Looks like a good Yaris/Fit/Versa competitor.

Is the current 2 sold in the US? If it isn't then I doubt this will.

I kind of like it, its fresh and good looking, could be good competition for the Yaris, Fit, Versa segment.

No, but with the influx of this car's competition and based on the rumors, it stands a fair chance of coming here. I hope it does because it nice looking.

Yup, the Yaris, Fit and Versa are all sold here. However, only the 2 door hatch and 4 door sedan versions of the Yaris exists here. I saw a 4 door hatch in Canada and boy it looked good! On another note, the Yaris and Fit seem to be doing better sales wise than the Versa. I see that the Versa is more rare than the other two econoboxes.

Isn't the Versa bigger than the Yaris and the Fit (Jazz)? Focus rival? Or am I completely wrong?

It may be, but, here, it's considered to be in the same class as them.

It's only slightly bigger. I don't even think the Focus exists anymore.

I've checked and the Versa is 4925mm long, which in Europe would put it in the C-segment (Golf, Focus), above the Yaris, the Jazz and the 2 which are B-segment (Punto, Corsa) cars.

It does.

The Focus is still in production? Wow, I thought it was discontinued.

What are the lengths of the Fit and Yaris though? I don't think they're that far off from a Versa. They're still all considered subcompacts here though.

Honda Jazz is 3845mm long, Toyota Yaris 3750mm long. So the Nissan is quite a lot bigger.

In comparison the Golf is 4204mm long and the your Focus 4280mm long. The Nissan is bigger than both...

PS I realized I made a typo concerning the Versa's lenght in my original post. It is 4295mm.

Wow, it's so boring I didn't even notice. :p

The European Focus looks so much better. Couldn't they just bring it over?

Then that's not too far off.

the new mazda 2 looks interesting, but not very good, just plain ugly, all that sharps, cuts and curves in the bodywork - totally overstyled
as i first saw the pictures, i never thought is a mazda, rather a new small kia, hyundai or even worse daewoo (i'll never say chevrolet) and i've hoped the new 2 would look like the mx micro sport
poor job mazda, very poor job
